The Heirloom Restaurant is our flagship restaurant, featuring formal dining and lakeside comfort in the dining room of the historic Athenaeum Hotel. The culinary experience is managed by the Executive Chef. During the nine-week summer season the Heirloom Restaurant is open every day, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. During the pre-season (May) and post-season (September) the restaurant is open Thursday to Sunday for lunch and dinner.
About Your Compensation
Compensation for this position is $10.70/hour plus tipped earnings. Employees who are scheduled to perform work in a non-tipped capacity for 20%+ or more of their shift, attend required events like orientation or training, or do not average minimum wage with their combined tipped income each week will be paid a minimum wage of $16.00/hour.
About Your Work Day
You will be required to have a working knowledge of wine, beer and spirits, as well as a foundation in classic cocktail building. The Heirloom Restaurant is our flagship restaurant, featuring formal dining and lakeside comfort in the dining room of the historic Athenaeum Hotel. The culinary experience is managed by the Executive Chef. During the nine-week summer season the Heirloom Restaurant is open every day, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. During the pre-season (May) and post-season (September) the restaurant is open Thursday to Sunday for lunch and dinner.
About Your Compensation
Compensation for this position is $10.70/hour plus tipped earnings. Employees who are scheduled to perform work in a non-tipped capacity for 20%+ or more of their shift, attend required events like orientation or training, or do not average minimum wage with their combined tipped income each week will be paid a minimum wage of $16.00/hour.
About Your Work Day
You will be required to have a working knowledge of wine, beer and spirits, as well as a foundation in classic cocktail building. You will work as part of a small team either in The Lobby Lounge located in the Athenaeum Hotel, or as part of a special events team either on site or at one of several other venues at The Chautauqua Institution. Your day to day will consist of setting up and maintaining your bar, checking and maintaining inventory levels, executing food and drink service for guests at the bar or on the porch, providing drinks as needed for servers in The Heirloom Dining Room, as well as assorted other duties typically associated with a bartender position. The ideal candidate is an independent worker capable of performing with a team, one who is experienced in fine dining, one who is well versed in classic cocktails and has the ability to memorize recipes. You may be called upon to provide suggestions to guests or coworkers based on your knowledge of food and beverage. Ours is a fast-paced environment with a heavy emphasis on exceptional customer service and the delivery of an excellent product.

Candidate must maintain accurate records for cashiering and inventory as designated by management. Candidate will maintain the cleanliness of coolers, bar equipment, glassware, decanters and any other service items associated with beverage service and health code requirements. Bartenders may be dual-rated as barbacks. Bartenders may be asked to take food orders and deliver food orders to guests, utilizing the pivot method when serving tables. Bartenders may be asked to bus tables, clean up and complete other assigned tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
One year bartending experience or degree from accredited bartender school preferred. Candidate must have proven customer service abilities, excellent communication skills, good grasp of the English language, the ability to operate cash register, (POS system). Candidate must have the knowledge and ability to mix a variety of cocktails. Candidate will have extensive product knowledge of liquor, beer and wine and will be required to continue to expand on that knowledge as determined by management. Hours and shifts will vary according to business needs and will include holidays and weekends. Candidate must be physically able to lift up to 40 pounds, bend, stoop, climb, and reach with or without reasonable accommodation and work on their feet for long periods of time. Candidate is must keep a positive upbeat demeanor as well as be properly groomed and maintain a professional appearance throughout a shift. All service staffs will be required to learn and be tested on a variety of new products, recipes along with new service and preparation techniques on a regular basis to ensure the department is improving as a whole. Candidate must be at least 18 years of age. Candidate must be able to obtain appropriate licensing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Candidate is responsible for ordering, delivering and serving food & beverage items to the patrons throughout the casino. On occasion, candidate will assist bartenders with the preparation of beverages. Candidate will be responsible for all other duties as assigned. Server will be required to purchase drinks in advance to sell to customers there by ensuring accuracy and consistency with the handling of revenues and products. Servers are responsible for providing accurate service, professional appearance and a friendly attitude towards guests and fellow team members. Servers must practice safe food & beverage handling techniques as demonstrated and required by management. Other duties may be assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Previous experience in Beverage Service is preferred with POS or Micros type systems. Knowledge of various mixed drinks preferred. Candidate must be customer service oriented, possess good interpersonal skills, strong money handling skills & be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Hours vary and will include holidays and weekends. Candidate must keep a positive upbeat demeanor as well as be properly groomed and maintain a professional appearance throughout a shift. All service staffs will be required to learn and be tested on a variety of new products, recipes along with new service and preparation techniques on a regular basis to ensure the department is improving as a whole. Candidate must be able to obtain appropriate licensing. Candidate must be able to stand on your feet and walk the floor for prolonged amounts of time. Candidate must be physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, and reach with or without reasonable accommodation. Candidate must be at least 18 years of age. Candidate must be able to obtain appropriate licensing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.

About Your Work Day
Bartender knowledge of beer, wine, and liquor.
Consistently prepare mixed drinks according to Athenaeum hotel standards.
Receive and prepare bar beverage orders from service staff.
Quickly service guests at fast-paced events bars.
Cleaning glasses and utensils, bar area.
Restocking beer, wine, and glasses as necessary.
Track all orders through POS System and report daily sales.
Track complimentary, unwanted, or lost beverages.
Know and understand NYS liquor laws.
