John P. Shank, CPA is a 1985 graduate of Huntingdon College, and graduated with honors. He is the Chief Practice Officer and founding member of BMSS, LLC. John’s client practice focuses on manufacturing, wholesale/retail distribution, service, financial service industry, nonprofit, and governmental. His background is audit and management advisory service oriented but is in charge of all client’s needs, whether financial statement or corporate or individual income tax. Firm management responsibilities include serving as BMSS’ Chief Practice Officer where he is responsible for the oversight of business development, marketing, creating the exceptional client experience and the exceptional client onboarding experience, and coordinating and overseeing service and industry niches. As CPO he serves on the firm’s executive committee which is responsible for the day-to-day operations of BMSS, LLC and globally oversees the operations of the firms affiliated companies, Abacus Technologies, an IT consulting firm, Payroll and Benefit Solutions, a human capital consulting and management firm, ITAC Solutions, an employee placement firm, and BMSS Wesson Wealth Solutions, a wealth advisory firm. John is actively involved in civic affairs by currently serving as one of the Alabama representatives to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He has served on the AICPA Benevolence Fund and Nominations Committee. He is a trustee with the Birmingham Business Alliance and involved in Kiwanis. He has been a board member of the Birmingham Venture Club, served as the Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary/Treasurer of the Alabama Society of CPAs, has served on the boards of the UAB School of Business Accounting Advisory Board, the Birmingham Boys Choir Foundation, the Huntingdon College Alumni Board, the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Foundation, and is the past president of the Birmingham Chapter of the ASCPA. John has been awarded "Who's Who in Law and Accounting" and "Top 40 Under 40" by the Birmingham Business Journal. John and his family are active at Covenant Presbyterian Church where they worship and John is a Deacon.
