Children's Hope Alliance company history timeline

1891

Barium Springs began as an orphanage in Barium Springs, North Carolina, in 1891.

1914

In 1914 a small town high up in the mountains of North Carolina, a Presbyterian minister arrived by the name of Edgar Tufts.

2001

After Koppelmeyer arrived in 2001, Barium Springs began laying the groundwork for weaving groups of services together to create a continuum of care.

2011

The Duke Endowment supported the mergers with a grant in 2011 to offset a portion of the costs.

2014

In April of 2014, Barium Springs Home for Children and Grandfather Home for Children came together in an effort to have a greater impact in helping children and families across North Carolina.

2020

During the 2020 Covid pandemic, Children’s Hope Alliance group homes closed including those on the Grandfather Home campus.
