    The role - what you'll do We are seeking a motivated and skilled environmental consultant to join Barr's permitting and compliance team. Our team helps clients determine which environmental regulations apply to their facilities and operations and what is required to attain and remain in compliance. We assist clients with permitting projects for new facilities, expansions, renovations, or operational changes. The selected candidate will work on diverse, fast-paced, and challenging projects, providing environmental support to clients in the fuels, mining, manufacturing, and power industries. In this role, you will apply your technical expertise and regulatory knowledge gained from your degree to develop solutions that allow clients to maintain flexibility and profitability while complying with environmental regulations related to air, water, and waste. A successful candidate in this role is intrinsically motivated and interested in building a career in environmental consulting. They are driven to solve complex problems and are adaptable to team and client needs. Your impact - key responsibilities * Interpret environmental regulations related to air, water, and waste. * Calculate emissions and develop compliance strategies. * Prepare regulatory and technical analysis memos. * Prepare routine compliance submittals and develop compliance tools. * Compile and submit environmental permit applications. * Strategize to avoid or minimize impacts to resources. * Provide on-site client support as needed (may require out-of-town travel). About the opportunity * Compensation: Anticipated range of $70,000-80,000 annually. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act. * Hybrid: A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Salt Lake City, Utah, office. * Travel expectation: up to 10 percent of your time, may vary based on project and client needs. * Work environment: some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. About you - required core competencies * Education: bachelor's degree in chemical or environmental engineering or a related scientific degree. * Experience: Internship or post-college professional experience in industry, an environmental agency, or environmental consulting * Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project teams, regulators, and clients. * Strong technical and problem-solving skills, including attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness. * Demonstrated leadership skills. * Strong computer skills, including the use of spreadsheets and AI-related tools. * Travel: willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs. * Driver's license: possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. * Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future. Helpful additional experience (not required) * High level of proficiency working in data systems and analyzing large sets of data. * Experience working with regulations and environmental permitting. * Project or task management skills. * Demonstrated effectiveness in building working relationships across multi-dimensional teams.     ERM is hiring Field Biologists to conduct nesting bird surveys and surveys for special status species (plants and wildlife) for a large transmission and distribution program in northern Nevada and southern Idaho. Successful candidates must be flexible and responsive to a changing work environment where schedules, site locations, and tasks fluctuate according to the needs of the project. This is a full-time (60-72 hours/week), limited-term role with a duration of 18 months and the possibility of extension. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Field biologist position to conduct pre-construction nesting bird and other special status species surveys and construction monitoring across the project area. * Work locations are often remote and require Biologist to work independently. * Monitoring involves coordination with construction crews and environmental inspectors and providing guidance for maintaining compliance with client requirements. * Electronic data collection. * Handheld and sub-meter accurate GPS data collection. * Daily reporting and survey report compilation. * Other duties as assigned or required. * Compliance with ERM's rigorous safety program. REQUIREMENTS: The role of the Field Biologist requires meticulous oversight by highly skilled individuals stationed in the field throughout construction to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations. Qualifications of individuals to be considered will include: * At least 2 years of Avian Biology and other Special Status Species experience required. In addition to nesting birds, expertise should include more than one of the following species: pygmy rabbit, Burrowing Owl, Golden Eagle, Ferruginous Hawk,. * Familiarity with nesting bird survey protocols and bird identification skills required. * Electric Transmission and BLM experience required. * Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain. * Working knowledge of sub-meter accuracy GPS technologies and map interpretation skills (e.g., NWI, USGS, aerial photography), as well as Field Maps and Survey123 applications. * Must have a strong attention to detail in documentation of work. * Must have strong organizational and communication skills. * Desire to work in the field for an extended period and maintain a positive attitude. * Willingness and ability to travel with overnight stays possible. * Demonstrated independent and effective problem-solving and decision-making skills. * Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area in remote locations. Your Opportunity As a Senior Mining Cost Estimator at Stantec, you will be responsible for developing, managing, and coordinating large multi-discipline mining cost estimates and construction schedules. You will work with a dynamic team of cost estimators, schedulers, and construction engineers in Stantec's mining construction services group. This role provides an excellent opportunity to grow while contributing to exciting mining projects reaching multiple billions of dollars. You will prepare accurate cost estimates and schedules to support design teams at key project milestones. Your Key Responsibilities Develop multi-discipline cost estimates and construction schedules. Support the validation of material takeoffs and construction quantities from drawings. Compile information into a cohesive cost estimate. Prepare estimate execution plans and basis of estimate report deliverables. Develop site-specific estimating criteria, including wage and person-hour productivity rates. Participate in quality control reviews of construction documents. Obtain quotes from vendors, suppliers, and contractors. Prepare construction logistics plans and labor-force plans. Identify risks and opportunities in design documents related to competitive pricing. Contribute to constructability review of engineering designs. Collaborate with team members to develop and improve cost estimating procedures and tools. Coach and mentor junior estimators Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate a willingness to grow in a team environment. Serve as a cost estimating point of contact for internal and external clients. Your Capabilities and Credentials Detailed knowledge of cost/estimating, engineering design, or construction practices, preferably in mining. Understand different contract methods and how they apply to estimating. Familiarity with estimating/scheduling software (InEight Estimate, Primavera P6, MS Project). Strong attention to detail and ability to work with numerical data. Willingness to travel for site reconnaissance and interfacing with clients and stakeholders (domestic and some international travel may be periodically required). Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and support junior team members. Ability to concurrently manage multiple assignments and quickly adapt to new priorities. Strong organizational skills. Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgement, creativity, and innovation. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering, Construction Management, Operations Management, Business Management, or related field is required. 10+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience is required. Field or internship experience in heavy civil, tunnel, or mining is an asset. Typical office environment working with computers. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
