SEE SCHEDULE OTRANSITIONAL HOUSING: BARRIER FREE LIVING'S TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PROGRAM CELEBRATED ITS 27TH YEAR DURING THE YEAR 2017. THE FACILITY THAT HOUSED THE PROGRAM UNFORTUNATELY HAD TO END ITS CONTRACT WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELESS SERVICES (DHS) AND TO CLOSE ITS DOORS ON APRIL 30, 2018 DUE TO THE DILAPIDATING STATE OF THE BUILDING. DESPITE ITS CLOSING, THE PROGRAM WAS ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY PLACE THE MAJORITY OF ITS RESIDENTS INTO PERMANENT HOUSING WITHIN DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE FIVE BOROUGHS OF NEW YORK CITY. IN ADDITION TO THE PERMANENT PLACEMENT OF ITS RESIDENTS, THE PROGRAM WAS ABLE TO ABSORB MANY EMPLOYEES OF THE PROGRAM INTO OTHER PROGRAMS WITHIN THE BARRIER FREE LIVING INC. PROGRAM AND SERVICES PORTFOLIO, THEREFORE REDUCING THE NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES WHO WOULD HAVE BEEN LAID-OFF DUE THE PROGRAMS' CLOSURE.
