Serves customers responsibly by mixing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks while performing administrative duties and ensuring patrons safety. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Prepare mixed drinks by selecting and mixing ingredients according to recipes. Garnishes drinks by slicing and pitting fruits; preparing olives and other such garnishes for drinks. Prepare and serve beer for patrons in a fast and courteous manner. Be knowledgeable with the wines offered and serve patrons effectively. Maintains attractive bar by arranging bottles and glasses for display; remove soiled glassware and empty bottles and cans; ensuring cleanliness. Maintain supplies by requisitioning, or re-stocking liquors, wine, beer, and non- alcoholic ingredients, and replacing beer kegs. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities including Serve Safe alcohol awareness; keeping abreast of drink trends; exploring new recipes. Enhance bar reputation by properly carding patrons and fallowing safe alcohol serving procedures; safe guarding guest. Maintaining a high level of customer service. Management of administrative office work including contracts, receipt of payment, filing and reporting. Collect money for drinks served. Check identification of customers to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol. Balance cash receipts. Attempt to limit problems and liability related to customers' excessive drinking by taking steps such as persuading customers to stop drinking, or ordering taxis or other transportation for intoxicated patrons. Clean glasses, utensils, and bar equipment. Take beverage orders from serving staff or directly from patrons. Serve wine, and bottled or draft beer. Clean bars, work areas, and tables. Mix ingredients, such as liquor, soda, water, sugar, and bitters, to prepare cocktails and other drinks. Serve snacks or food items to customers seated at the bar. All other duties as assigned. Job Description The Heirloom Restaurant is our flagship restaurant, featuring formal dining and lakeside comfort in the dining room of the historic Athenaeum Hotel. The culinary experience is managed by the Executive Chef. During the nine-week summer season the Heirloom Restaurant is open every day, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. During the pre-season (May) and post-season (September) the restaurant is open Thursday to Sunday for lunch and dinner. About Your Compensation Compensation for this position is $10.70/hour plus tipped earnings. Employees who are scheduled to perform work in a non-tipped capacity for 20%+ or more of their shift, attend required events like orientation or training, or do not average minimum wage with their combined tipped income each week will be paid a minimum wage of $16.00/hour. About Your Work Day You will be required to have a working knowledge of wine, beer and spirits, as well as a foundation in classic cocktail building. The Double Eagle serves players and members of The Chautauqua Golf Club providing snacks, lunch, and a full-service bar in the air-conditioned clubhouse, under a covered patio and around the greens on our mobile beverage cart. About Your Compensation Compensation for this position is $10.70/hour plus tipped earnings. Employees who are scheduled to perform work in a non-tipped capacity for 20%+ or more of their shift, attend required events like orientation or training, or do not average minimum wage with their combined tipped income each week will be paid a minimum wage of $16.00/hour. About Your Work Day Knowledge of beer, wine, and liquor Consistently prepare mixed drinks according to the Athenaeum Hotel standards Receive and prepare bar beverage orders from service staff Quickly service guests at fast-paced events bar Cleaning glasses and utensils, bar area Restocking beer, wine, and glasses as necessary Track all orders through POS system and report daily sales Track complimentary, unwanted, or lost beverages Know and understand NYS Liquor Laws All other duties as assigned About the Referral Program Chautauqua Institution's Referral Bonus Program is a talent solution to recruit, develop, and retain a diverse workforce that encompasses all the skills and experience necessary to deliver on our goals and objectives. Chautauqua Institution will provide a $500 referral bonus (less taxes) for active employees referring a new candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90-days from the first physical date of work. In the case of seasonal positions working less than 6-months, the new candidate must remain actively employed for at least 30-days from the first physical date of work and until the closing date of the season. The closing date of the season is the last Sunday in August. About Your Schedule Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company offer flexible schedules, full and part-time, for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August. Seasonal employment may be available earlier (pre-season) and beyond season (post-season) based on business needs and candidate availability. Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as a requirement. While you will confirm your final schedule with management at the time of an interview and offer of employment, you should generally anticipate the following schedule options for this position: Typically work a six or eight-hour shift with a start time that varies between 5am to 5pm. About Living on the Grounds No employer-provided housing is available for this position, including onsite and off-grounds options. Applicants should plan to secure independent housing or reside within a commutable distance.
