Grounds Maintenance includes but is not limited to: preparation, planting, mowing repair, replacement and renovation of ground covers, plants, shrubs, sidewalks, streets and lots; small tree removal and pruning; operation and maintenance of surface and sewer water systems as well as manual and computer based irrigation systems; use, operate, and maintain tools and equipment including tractors, mowers, snowplows, and material handling; operate and use moderate to heavy equipment in efficient safe manner; refuse and garbage maintenance; move and haul property as instructed; some limited brick and concrete work and maintenance of retaining walls; carry out all duties in safe and efficient manner consistent with University policies and procedures. Varying amount of after hour and special event hours as needed; perform other related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Proven experience with and knowledge of grounds maintenance procedures as stated above; previous experience with manual and power operated equipment including all types of mowers, edgers, chainsaws, etc. related to this position; good comprehensive skills including ability to read and comprehend verbal and written instructions; prior experience operating all related implements and equipment with agility and safety; work as a team and independently; ability to operate forklift; demonstrated good safety, attendance and work record; must have a valid Illinois driver's license; D.O.T. medium weight truck physical required.
