Basketball Official (Referee)
Job Type: Part-time / On-Call (Per Game Basis) The Basketball Official provides certified officiating services for league and tournament basketball games at the DSCC Fitness Center. This role ensures all games are conducted safely, fairly, and in accordance with standard basketball rules and DSCC league requirements. Officials must arrive early, brief new participants, enforce rules, maintain game integrity, and deliver official game results. This position requires professionalism, strong knowledge of basketball regulations, and clear communication skills.
Responsibilities: The candidate must:
Officiate all scheduled regulation and tournament basketball games in accordance with standard rules and DSCC league guidelines.
Arrive at least 10 minutes before each scheduled game and conduct a brief 5-minute instructional session for participants unfamiliar with league play.
Explain game format, rules, and safety protocols prior to game start.
Maintain control of the game, ensuring safe, fair, and sportsmanlike play.
Wear professional officiating attire and provide personal whistle and uniform.
Report all official game results to the DSCC Fitness Center following each event.
Attend mandatory pre-season league meeting to review rules, scheduling, and seasonal updates.
Contact DSCC Fitness Center at least four (4) hours prior to the first match to confirm schedule updates or cancellations.
Notify DSCC of any emergency or non-performance issues in accordance with contract requirements.
Maintain Real ID compliance to access the installation.
Requirements: The candidate shall have at minimum:
A certified basketball official with prior experience officiating league or competitive games.
The ability to manage gameplay, enforce rules, and de-escalate conflicts professionally.
Strong communication skills and familiarity with basketball regulations and officiating mechanics.
Ability to stand, move continuously, and perform officiating duties for extended periods.
Must possess a valid Real ID-compliant identification for base access.
Reliable transportation and ability to work Monday evenings (1700-1900).

Responsible for officiating excellent and safe youth and adult programs to YMCA members and program participants in Sports programs.

Essential Functions:
Monitors play to oversee the safety of players and ensure the particular sport's and YMCA rules are followed.
Ensures the gym(s) are ready for games with physical setting and equipment.
Sets up and tears down all equipment needed for play prior to start up time.
Communicates and enforces sports rules effectively while providing leadership during all games according to the YMCA policy.
Maintains cleanliness of the gym area.
Builds relationships with members and program participants.
Ensures safety by communicating and enforcing any rules, policies and guidelines at participants' comprehension level.
Ensures safety by checking for hazardous conditions and making sure all safety equipment is properly placed and in proper working condition.
Follows all sports program rules, dress code, policies and guidelines.
Tracks and posts league standings.
Posts schedules and events promptly prior to the league or event date.
Ensures all sports program information is communicated in writing to the Program Director, Membership Director, and Front Desk Staff in an accurate and timely manner.
Creates new ways to promote sports through new corporate leagues, tournaments, camps, etc.
Creates an atmosphere that is based on fair play and incorporates it in a manner that is both demonstrative and professional.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 15 years of age.
High School diploma preferred.
Six months or more of related officiating experience preferred

Job Summary
The Official is a critical role in any sports field; responsible for enforcing rules while also cultivating a positive culture, acting as an on-field coach, and advocating for the programs. This role has a direct impact on players, coaches, and spectators each and every game day.
Responsibilities
Understand & enforce the i9 Sports rules books ensuring a fun, learning, and safety for all players
Teach & demonstrate core concepts including Sportsmanship values
Keep time and score during the game; manage an age-appropriate level of instruction and competition
Consistently demonstrate a positive attitude and superior customer service skills
Qualifications
Excellent communication skills
Sport-specific officiating, playing, or coaching experience
Highly motivated self-starter; can work independently & solve problems
Awareness & ability to take charge of any situation to ensure the safety of players
Positive attitude and a strong ability to build professional relationships
Ability to work a varied work schedule including weekends and some evenings (for the full duration of the season, ~7 weeks)
Must be able to pass a National Criminal Background Check
Compensation: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
