Bastyr University company history timeline

1978

Bastyr University was established in 1978 as the John Bastyr College of Naturopathic Medicine in Seattle.

The majority of the students are graduate students. It was founded in 1978 and grants degrees in fields dealing with the natural health sciences.

1995

He served two terms on the Naturopathic Advisory Committee for the Washington State Department of Health and was an honorary member until his death in 1995.

1996

Ad hoc advisory committee member for the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements in 1996.

In 1996, Bastyr relocated to its current location in the Saint Thomas Center, formerly St Edward Seminary, a Catholic seminary building in Kenmore, Washington.

2000

Pizzorno served as president until his retirement in June 2000.

2001

Since 2001, Doctor Pizzorno has had his own company, Salugenecists Inc., which develops science-based, artificial intelligence-aided advice systems that provide personalized health promotion and self-care guidance.

2001: Recognized as one of the leading health educators in the past 30 years by Natural Health magazine.

2002

2002: Awarded "Naturopathic Physician of the Year" by the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians.

2002: Awarded "Founder's Award for Pioneering Complementary and Alternative Medicine" by the National Foundation for Alternative Medicine.

2003

2005

In November, 2005, the university purchased the property, which it had been leasing from the Archdiocese of Seattle.

2006

2006: Recognized as the most illustrious graduate of the National College of Naturopathic Medicine at its 50th anniversary.

2010

Shortly after graduation from NCNM, Griffith co-founded Bastyr University with Doctor Joseph Pizzorno, Doctor William Mitchell and Sheila Quinn." Source: NCNM Press Release, May 11, 2010

2012

A second campus opened in San Diego, California, in 2012.
