Tomas Bata who blew the wind of change in the footwear industry in 1894.
Although it did not have much commercial success for a few years since its establishment, in 1895 Tomáš áš took over the management and the company began to turn around again.
When the company started production of Baťovka (canvas shoes) in 1897, it started witnessing success.
In 1900, the T. & A. Bata Company was commercially registered with Tomáš áš Bata at the helm of the company, leading it onwards.
The Employee House was built for the workers in 1912, keeping in mind that it would be easier for the workers to concentrate on their work if they resided near the factory.
In 1913, Bata started exporting its shoes to Germany.
When the First World War broke out in 1914, orders for military boots began to grow.
By 1918, the number of Bata workers had increased tenfold, and Bata opened its own stores in several other areas, including Zlín, Prague, Liberec, Vienna, and Pilsen.
In 1945, Bata Development Limited, located in Great Britain, was declared the service headquarters of the Bata Shoe Organization.
In Bangladesh, Bata started its operation in 1962.
In 1967, Eastern Progressive Shoe Industries (EPSI) established its production plant.
In 1970 William A. S. Ouderland, an Australian citizen was sent to Bangladesh as an Executive Director from Bata.
The company was incorporated in 1972.
The company launched Bata Industrial Shoes in January 2009.
In the first four months of the 2010 fiscal year there has been $98 million worth of exports, a 65 per cent increase from the same period last year.
Though in the next two years the existing factories are likely to export more shoes, it is the new capacity that will come on stream from early 2011 that is expected to cause the huge spurt in growth.
The first part of the complex will go into production by the middle of next year, and the company’s executives said they would be able to manufacture about 30 million pairs of shoes by 2013.
Bata Bangladesh has already developed its vision up to 2013 showing significant business growth as well as increased market share.
