Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Nurturing Resilience Initiative/TCHATT
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHealth Houston) is seeking a psychology post-doctoral fellow interested in clinical and research training in child and adolescent psychology. Clinical and research training will focus on youth receiving school-based tele-mental health services and children/families who are participating in community-based social-emotional skills groups and evidence-based parenting programs.
Applicants must have a PhD in psychology. This is a hybrid position in which postdoctoral fellows will deliver services via telemedicine and in-person at community sites in Harris and Fort Bend Counties.
Trainees will choose between one of two tracks within the postdoctoral fellowship, with one track focusing on school-aged youth and the other track focusing on early childhood and parenting. The school-age track includes the delivery of brief social emotional groups at Boys and Girls Club and YMCA locations. The second track includes a focus on early childhood with postdoctoral fellows delivering relational-focused parenting classes to caregivers of children under 6 years old. Both tracks include research and training opportunities and can be customized to individual professional goals.
General educational activities include weekly didactic activities, journal clubs, writing clubs, meetings with senior researchers, workshops on grant writing, and individualized career development plans. Scholarly activities are integrated into the fellowship training.

Research Assistant for Poverty Simulator (Part Time - 3 Hours a Week)

The Office of Population Health and the Center for Interprofessional Collaboration are seeking a Research Assistant to assist with operational tasks for Community Action Poverty Simulator (CAPS) events. The Poverty Simulator was developed to help raise awareness about the social determinants of health and various aspects of poverty, leading to in-depth discussions about the role healthcare providers and policy play in the overall community. Since 2023, the simulator has become a graduation requirement for all nursing, dental, and medical students. To support full-time CAPS staff, the Research Assistant will be available during CAPS sessions to address any needs that arise.
This role only works about three hours a week on a part-time basis without any benefits.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under close direction of senior research staff, conducts activities to support research projects. The candidate be responsible for collecting various biological samples from patient populations, including tissue, blood, stool and CSF. They will also use the lab's expertise in multimodal approaches - fMRI, lesional analysis following epilepsy surgery, intracranial recordings and direct stimulation to analyze surgical outcomes of disease and to create and validate network level representations of language. The candidates will contribute to the research currently underway in the lab through data analysis using various computer-based software programs and they will have the opportunity to gain knowledge in the fields of reading, semantics, speech production and computational neuroscience.
The candidate is expected to be highly motivated, a team player with a passion to study epilepsy and tumor conditions as well as cognitive processes using data collected by various modalities available in the lab. Position Summary:
Under close direction of senior research staff, conducts activities to support research projects.
Position Key Accountabilities:
* Under close supervision, conducts research activities according to research protocol. Research
activities may include some or all of the following: Recruit participants for community research
initiatives.
* Administer surveys and enter survey data as needed.
* Track and conduct follow up visits with participants recruited in community intervention studies.
* Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for research department.
* Deliver educational modules to participants in home and community settings.
* Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations, and codes.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

* General knowledge of research fields.

* Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in lieu of education.

Work is performed under usual laboratory conditions. Some hazards maybe present due to use of radioactive, carcinogenic or other potentially harmful substances. Responsibilities include ensuring overall cleanliness of the laboratory and equipment, and for ordering and maintaining an adequate stock of necessary supplies. May instruct or direct work of subordinate laboratory personnel.The position is to develop an optimized human cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (hCFTR) sequence for use in human gene therapy that maximizes biogenesis and gating efficiencies while minimizing protein length and non-native point mutations.
The project involves techniques such as molecular biology, cell biology, culturing of mammalian cells, Western blots, fluorescence microscopy, and cell-based assays, including ELISA and chloride channel activity measurements.
Master's degree in one of the sciences, or equivalent combination (6 years) of job-related experience and college education. Experience may be substituted for college education on a year for year basis.
