    The Children's Nutrition Research Center (CNRC) at Baylor College of Medicine invites applications for a the competitive CNRC Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Nutrition. The CNRC is an internationally recognized Center for pediatric nutrition research operated in cooperation between the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Baylor College of Medicine, and Texas Children's Hospital. The CNRC is located in a modern, fully equipped research facility in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX. The goal of the Training Program at the CNRC is to prepare Ph.D. and M.D. postdocs for biomedical research careers in nutrition that focus on pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence. Supported trainees conduct research under the mentorship of a CNRC faculty member in basic, translational, behavioral, and clinical pediatric and/or maternal nutrition research, while also benefitting from state-of-the-art training, didactic structure, and a mentoring committee. Research areas include molecular regulation of metabolism, growth, and body composition; developmental determinants of chronic diseases; epigenetic outcomes of nutritional conditions; dietary bioactives; neuroregulation of appetite and metabolism; dietary requirements; behavioral basis of energy balance; and crop improvement. Job Duties Full understanding of framing research questions, research design and methods, and project implemetation. Learns and becomes an expert at research techniques involved in your projects and, when appropriate, develops and establishes methods of research, tests and collects data, conducts analysis and evaluation, and writes reports containing descriptive, analytical and evaluative content. Exercises independent discretion and judgment in carrying out research activities within the predetermined research scope and methodology. Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conducts research experiments in the field of Nutrition Science. Collects and analyzes data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related field to analyze the collected data. Demonstrates proficiency in scientific/manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals, grant writing, poster and oral presentations. Attends conferences and seminars. Strong publication record and demonstrated experience in research study design and project implementation. Mentors research training in laboratory specific research methods. Attends courses, seminars, and lectures that integrate the study of research methods and processes. Minimum Qualifications MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field. No experience required. Preferred Qualifications M.D. degree or A Ph.D. degree in nutrition, molecular biology, physiology, genetics, biostatistics, epidemiology, animal science, psychology, sociology, or related field of study. In a typical year, the Pedi GI Team completes more than 8,000 visits across 6 clinics and about 700 admissions across 4 hospitals. The Division has active programs in inflammatory bowel disease; specialized clinics in liver disease and children with high risk; an aerodigestive program; and a growing program on celiac and colorectal diseases. The Pediatric Gastroenterology Division is currently #29 in the US News and World Report Top Children's Hospitals, ranked ahead of many more populated programs, and is expanding outreach clinics across the growing pediatric population in Greater Houston. This position will work closely with a faculty manager, who will provide substantive and methodological guidance as needed. We expect the successful candidate to bring robust foundational skills and demonstrated experience applying advanced methods commonly used in large-scale education research (for example, multilevel and growth models, structural equation models, and IRT), and to be comfortable deepening and extending that expertise through self-directed learning and targeted collaboration with faculty. Proficiency in SAS is crucial, as many of our existing data pipelines and analyses are implemented and documented in SAS, and the candidate should be able to understand, maintain, and adapt legacy code. Experience with additional statistical programming languages (such as R or Python), along with a demonstrated ability to consult documentation, learn new tools, and adapt code examples from external sources to address novel analytic questions, is also highly valued.     The Director of the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) at UTHealth Houston is responsible for the oversight of the university's development and implementation of initiatives, curriculum and programs related to postdoctoral research fellows (PRFs) and oversees all administrative aspects of the OPA, including: representing postdoc policy issues with all levels of faculty and administration; independently developing and overseeing publications, programs and events; managing the OPA electronic database; communicating information about positions, career opportunities and university services; as well as serving as an advocate for postdoc issues with faculty and administration. Provides confidential coaching and constructive pathways to PRFs and their faculty supervisors for addressing concerns, fostering stability, and operational excellence across the postdoctoral community. Acts as UTHealth Houston's central point of contact for all postdoctoral matters. * Leads postdoctoral association programs, including the annual President's Excellence in Postdoctoral Research Award, travel awards, career seminars, and networking and social events; directs the New PRF orientation program and ongoing communications through postdoc listservs and other channels to ensure timely dissemination of information regarding training, seminars, and funding, while serving as the primary liaison to campus resources. * Serves on the UTHealth Houston Academic Council and National Postdoctoral Association committees to advocate for postdoctoral issues, while coordinating with PRF offices at sister TMC institutions to leverage resources and offerings, aiming to establish the UTHealth Houston Office of Postdoctoral Affairs as the pre-eminent OPA within the TMC. * Oversees the accurate collection of information for the postdoctoral database used to generate annual THECB CBM00R Report, NSF-NIH Survey, Legislative Appropriation Performance Measures, and other reports as required; provides faculty and schools with data for grants and training development and develops and manages the annual OPA budget. * Develops and maintains content for the OPA website containing a database of funding agencies and a link to the job board for PRFs. • Manages Human Resources activities for direct reports in regard to recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning. * Responsible for the design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, and financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. * Performs other duties as assigned Certification/Skills: Minimum Education: Doctorate Degree Minimum Experience: * 7 years of related experience required * 2 years of Postdoc experience required * Leadership experience in health or medical program administration and program development within an academic health center, with a preference for previous work in postdoctoral affairs preferred Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
