This position is responsible for performing a full range of laboratory tests, confirming the accuracy of test results, and reporting laboratory findings to the doctors, pathologists, or other physicians. This position may work in any of the major areas of the laboratory: Transfusion Service, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology/Immunology, Toxicology, Special Chemistry and Fibrinolysis. Operates and maintains a variety of laboratory instruments. Utilizes laboratory computer system in performance of duties. This position maintains strict adherence to established policies and procedures and works under the supervision of a general supervisor or medical technologist. Direct supervision is not required for specimen processing, test performance or result reporting. Performs work accurately and thoroughly by being meticulous. Ensures the distribution of associated test information and results in a manner consistent with department standards, regulatory standards, and turnaround time criteria. Ensures the proper functioning of laboratory instrumentation by performing required quality controls, maintenance, documentation, and troubleshooting procedures. Evaluates specimen quality for testing as deemed appropriate per test method. Demonstrates ability to use the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Contributes to effective customer relations by assisting patients, visitors, physicians to resolve expressed concerns and by demonstrating a welcoming and helpful attitude.
