A Brief Overview
The Security Officer is responsible for patrolling the hospital and grounds to ensure a safe, secure environment for Associates, patients and their family members, and other visitors to the hospital. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.
What you will do
Patrols hospital, parking and/or assigned area to ensure safety and security for Associates, patients and visitors to the hospital.
Assumes mobile responsibilities, i.e., van, shuttle.
Provides customer service and performs general duties.
Uses proper communication skills for radio and telephone.
Prepares daily activity reports, Incident Reports, Offense Reports, Fire Reports, etc.
Maintains property of patients, lost and found property, and documentation on money escorts.
Maintains appearance and equipment.

Givens Estates is hiring for full-time Safety and Security Officers to support our South Asheville campus. This position will support our weekday evening shifts, working Monday - Friday, 3:00pm-11:00pm. The Safety and Security Officer position has the primary role to provide access control to the Givens Communities campuses, respond to campus emergencies, provide traffic control, patrol the campus, investigate safety/security instances and report, conduct safety drills, monitor alarms, secure buildings, ensure visitors sign in, provide light duty maintenance tasks, and provide transportation for residents.
What you'll do:
Monitor emergency call dashboard for alarms/alerts and respond accordingly
Reset Pendants/Pull Cords
Maintain information of active BOLO notices, trespass notices, and/or restraining order information for team member/resident concerns
Handle situations dealing with unauthorized vehicles not willing to exit campus
Assist EMS personnel. Provide directions or locate residences, provide other support in emergency situations
Investigate any safety and security instances and respond accordingly. Provide appropriate documentation of event
Conduct safety drills including but not limited to fire alarm training in the licensed areas of campus
Assist in keeping campus clean by picking up litter/debris in and around buildings
Acts as security for and responds to staff and/or resident related issues. Including, team member terminations when requested by Human Resources
Provide initial response to maintenance emergency calls after normal business hours
Perform as a First Responder to resident emergency calls
Perform any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned on an as-needed basis by an authorized supervisor

Initial armed response to any imminent situation that threatens the life or safety of anyone on Atrium Health property.
Takes immediate corrective action against hazards and conditions which may cause injury or damage, utilizing training and authority granted under NC Private Protective services and pursuant to NC General Statute.
Reports any actions needed or taken to upper management. Acts as Field Training Officer.
Successfully completes all mandated in-service training related to NC Private Protective Services Board to maintain armed security licensure.
Demonstrates capability of communicating and demonstrating all skills required for the position as assessed through periodic skills assessments. Maintains all training and competency as required to maintain NC Private Protective Services Armed Security certification.
Physical Requirements
May have to run, or exert intense physical effort in moving or restraining others. Must have close and intermediate visual acuity. Must be able to hear and verbally communicate with others. Walks/stands for extended periods of time, both inside and outside in a fast-paced environment. May be exposed to unfavorable weather conditions.
Education, Experience and Certifications.
High School diploma/GED required. Must possess a valid NC or SC driverï ½s license. Must be at least 21 years of age. 2 years experience in private security (healthcare and/or armed preferred), security-related military, or law enforcement required. Ability to obtain and maintain an Armed Guard license as required by the NC Private Protective Services. Must complete or have completed training from Atrium Health that includes but is not limited to: Non-Violent Crisis Intervention/De-escalation, defensive tactics, baton, TASER, and firearms. Must successfully complete Atrium Health minimum standards for armed security officers including acceptable firearms proficiency, background investigation, physical ability and psychological testing within 90 days of hire. Must obtain IAHSS Basic and Advanced Certification within 1 year of hire.

Job Summary
Oversees a fixed post or patrols an assigned area to preserve peace and order, to protect persons and property, and to perform duties relating to the welfare and safety of the team members, patients, visitors, and property of Atrium Health.
