Borinquen Medical Centers is based in Miami, FL and is seeking to hire a full-time Outreach Specialist. Responsible for informing the community and creating awareness about Borinquen Medical Centers (BMC) services, including: substance use, mental health, HIV prevention, and prevention education on the risks of substance misuse, HIV/AIDS, and STDs. The Behavioral Health Outreach Specialist also conducts outreach in high-risk areas to recruit participants for testing and BMC services, provides needed linkages to service provision for individuals with mental health, substance use and/or co-occurring disorders, and participates in the coordination and facilitation of presentations to educate the community about our services. TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist Project Director and Behavioral Health Lead Navigator in SAMHSA annual reports, continuation applications, etc. for Behavioral Health Department. Assist Project Director and Behavioral Health Lead Navigator with integration of behavioral health services and communication between disciplines (psychiatrists, physicians, APRNs, LCSWs, LMHCs, etc.). Additional This position is in support of the Child and Youth Center affiliated with Tyndall AFB, FL. Candidates must be local to Tyndall AFB, FL and be licensed at the independent level as a Mental Health Counselor (LPC or LMHC), Therapist (LMFT), Social Worker (LCSW) or equivalent independent licensure. This position has the primary responsibility of providing the full breadth of Child and Youth Behavioral (CYB) counseling services to children of all ages of military service members and their families at military installations to include civilian expeditionary work force and their families (when activated). These services may include non-medical counseling, training/health and wellness presentations, consultation with parents, personnel at child development centers, and consultation to installation command regarding behavioral health issues affecting children and youth. CYB counselors will be assigned to child development centers, youth programs, summer camps, and on demand assignments. Works under the direct supervision of Substance Abuse Services (SAS) Clinical Manager and/or Program Director. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Performs moderately complex substance abuse counseling work. Work involves planning, coordinating, and implementing substance abuse counseling activities, and coordinating with other departments, divisions, agencies, and community organizations to ensure the maximum utilization of resources available for chemical dependency treatment and rehabilitation. Facilitates substance abuse program services as directed and approved by the SAS Program Director and the counselor's immediate supervisor - SAS Clinical Manager. Screens and coordinates admissions into Center outpatient adolescent and adult substance abuse services. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Possess knowledge of counseling techniques, importance of evidence-based practices, willingness to implement these practices, and knowledge of recovery processes. Ability to interview, screen, build rapport with, and evaluate consumers; to counsel others; to instruct others; to aid in the implementation and the facilitation of chemical dependency treatment programs; to prepare concise reports; and to maintain records. Ability to write progress notes according to standard, assessments, memos, letters, various complex reports and miscellaneous other documents with acceptable spelling and grammar. Ability to relate verbal instructions, communicate in a courteous and effective fashion with co-workers, consumers, families, agencies, and the public.
