Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum $23.00 - $26.44 - $31.28 Summary: Pharmacy Technician - Baystate Wing Pharmacy (40 hrs) day shift only (8am-430pm) , every 4th week/holiday. This is a full time position (40 hours) Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, Pharmacy technicians assist in various activities of the pharmacy department. Through the leadership of the operations leadership team, the pharmacy technician is responsible for the essential functions and responsibilities outlined in this document, noting every employee is expected to perform other similar and related duties as assigned. Leadership has the right to change or add to the job responsibilities based on changes in workflows or processes as necessary. The employee is expected to: Obtain and maintain appropriate knowledge and understanding of Baystate Wing Hospital/Baystate Health (BH) Pharmacy Services. This knowledge includes the values, policies, and procedures of BWH/BH and BH Pharmacy Services. The certified pharmacy technician II is responsible for supporting dispensing and restocking functions from the central pharmacy to patient care areas utilizing automated inventory dispensing machines (e.g., carousel) and cabinets (e.g., Pyxis machines) and various medication trays and carts. Additionally, these team members support sterile compounding (USP 797) activities. The certified pharmacy technician II team members are expected to understand major job responsibilities and performance factors that help meet the mission and vision of the department and organization. This includes a strong dedication to the following key behaviors which impact the patient experience: Customer service, Teamwork, Attendance Thorough understanding of drug distribution workflows focusing on medication safety, quality, and value; Dedication and commitment to understanding, identifying, and participation in quality improvement initiatives We offer expedited sterile IV compounding training. Job Responsibilities: 1) Distributive Pharmacy Services: Demonstrates thorough knowledge and understanding of the various roles, duties, and responsibilities of pharmacy technicians as well as pharmacy operations in the organization in order to perform these functions associated with their roles to support the drug preparation and distribution system in accordance with regulatory and compliance standards. The Certified Pharmacy Technician II is expected to support the functions of the Certified Pharmacy Technician I duties and responsibilities, including central pharmacy drug distribution (e.g., carousel), automated dispensing cabinets (e.g., Pyxis), basic non-sterile compounding (USP 795), and sterile compounding (USP797). 2) Dedication to Quality/Safety Understands the BH pharmacy locations and shifts and is familiar with the expectations of the technician role and various specialty areas/roles. Maintains a working knowledge of medication error prevention methods and handling/preparation techniques for high-risk or high-alert medications, including LASA medications Participates in the Unit Inspection process to ensure medication storage areas meet regular requirements and medication inventory is accurate and appropriate for use. Participates in medication/safety event reporting and resolutions as appropriate. 3) Customer Service & Teamwork: Interacts effectively with other members of the department and health care team regularly. Maintains attentiveness to the rights of patients. Maintains confidentiality of patient information. Triages orders, determine priorities, processes orders, and notify the pharmacist as appropriate. Communicates effectively with the team and external colleagues. This includes receiving/referring incoming calls to the department that handles the pharmacy window. 4) Participates in the BH staff development program - Performance Evaluation (PE) and meets departmental, professional, and personal goals. 5) Participates in the training and/or orientation of new pharmacy employees as needed 6) Employee is aware of and follows BH attendance policy 7) USP 797 Sterile Compounding: The employee demonstrates proficiency in all aspects of sterile compounding workflows and associated automation/technology. Understands and adheres to all applicable USP797 and associated regulatory requirements related to sterile compounding, including continuing education requirements and testing/validations. Supports minimal hazardous compounding as needed for patient care. Understands USP800 regulations related to hazardous drug compounding and associated PPE requirements needed for use in compounding hazardous medications. Works closely with MD's and APP's regarding appropriateness of home infusion versus facility infusions. o Helps facilitate home infusion order sets. 3. Appropriate tracking of patients requiring infusion therapy to ensure timely PA renewals and any change to therapy. 9. Support the infusion service to educate patients and ensure that the patient understands the specific goals of therapy and that the patient and providers are working to achieve these goals. 10. Support the infusion service to educate ordering providers on how to submit infusion orders and/or therapy plans appropriately. 11.
