1903

1922

The British Broadcasting Company, Ltd., was established in 1922 as a private corporation, in which only British manufacturers were permitted to hold shares.

1932

BBC World Service radio broadcasts began in 1932 as the Empire Service.

1933

They include, ironically, one of the world’s models for such undertakings, the Tennessee Valley Authority, established in 1933.

1936

He developed radio broadcasting throughout the British Isles, inaugurated the empire shortwave broadcasting service, and directed the development of the world’s first regular television service in 1936.

1979

During the Conservative regime of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (1979–90), many public enterprises were privatized.

1998

BBC America was launched on March 29, 1998, presenting a mixture of comedy, drama and lifestyle programs from BBC Television and other British television broadcasters including ITV and Channel 4.

2009

After CEO Paul Lee was appointed president of ABC Family in 2009, the network appointed Bill Hilary from Comedy Central to serve as its chief executive officer.

2014

In 2014, AMC Networks acquired a 49.9% equity stake in BBC America for $200 million, and replaced Discovery Communications as its management partner.
