Beaufort County Community College history
Beaufort County Community College company history timeline
Founded in 1967, Beaufort County Community College has a rich history that has been archived and is housed both in this library guide and in the library.
The vocational and technical programs of the College were complemented by a college parallel program which opened in 1968 in conjunction with East Carolina University.
1969 - Purchased permanent site and began construction on the first building, named for Graham Elliott
1974 - Completed Vocational/laboratory building named for Delmar Keech (#2)
In 1979, community college status was granted, and since then, Beaufort County Community College has functioned as a comprehensive community college offering continuing education and awarding associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates.
1990 - Doctor U. Rob Champion becomes BCCC's third president
1993 - Passed State bond referendum to fund construction of Student Services/Sciences building
1999 - Completed BCCC Foundation 3-year campaign with assets topping $350,000
2006 - Public Services Technologies building (#11) completed with state bond money to house Cosmetology, Early Childhood, and Human Services program
2012 - Doctor Barbara Tinsey installed as new BCCC President
