The Business Office Director serves as the strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing, optimizing, and continuously improving all aspects of the revenue cycle across Beaufort Memorial's acute, outpatient, and physician practice settings. This leader will drive operational excellence through innovation, compliance, data analytics, and workforce engagement, ensuring that revenue cycle operations support both financial health and patient satisfaction. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Vision Develop, communicate, and execute a comprehensive revenue cycle strategy aligned with Beaufort Memorial's mission, growth goals, and financial performance targets. Serve as a key member of the finance leadership team, providing insights to the CFO, CEO, and executive team on revenue trends, payer performance, and strategic opportunities. Lead enterprise-wide revenue cycle initiatives, including automation, digital payment platforms, and system modernization (Meditech and Athena, EHR/billing upgrades, AI-assisted workflows, price transparency). Build governance structures and performance dashboards to ensure accountability and continuous improvement. Operational Excellence Oversee all functional areas of the revenue cycle, including Patient Access, Billing, Charge Capture, Denials Management, and Collections. Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cash collections, DNFB, AR days, denial rates, cost-to-collect, and first-pass resolution rates. Leverage data analytics and automation (RPA, AI, predictive analytics) to streamline workflows, reduce rework, and improve accuracy. Ensure accurate and compliant CDM (Charge Description Master) maintenance and collaborate with clinical and financial leaders to strengthen revenue integrity. Payer Relations & Contract Management Partner with the CFO to translate payer contract terms into operational practice, ensuring reimbursement accuracy and compliance. Lead denial prevention and appeal strategies, utilizing root-cause analysis and performance metrics to drive resolution. Engage proactively with payers to address chronic underpayments, identify trends, and negotiate improved operational performance. Compliance, Risk & Regulatory Alignment Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and payer regulations (CMS, HIPAA, No Surprises Act, Price Transparency, EMTALA). Oversee audit readiness and risk mitigation programs, maintaining robust internal controls and monitoring for compliance gaps. Partner with the Compliance Department to develop corrective action plans and lead staff education related to revenue cycle policies and procedures. Patient Financial Experience Champion a patient-centered billing experience, ensuring clear communication, price transparency, and compassionate collection practices. Oversee financial counseling and cost estimate programs, supporting patients in understanding and managing their financial responsibilities. Introduce and manage digital payment options, mobile billing platforms, and self-service tools to improve convenience and satisfaction. Technology & Innovation Lead technology modernization efforts within the revenue cycle, integrating automation, AI tools, and predictive analytics to drive efficiency in Meditech Expanse. Partner with IT and Finance on system integrations, EHR optimizations, and vendor solutions for claims processing, early-out services, and eligibility verification. Champion digital transformation initiatives that reduce administrative burden and enhance staff and patient experience. Talent Development & Leadership Build and mentor a high-performing revenue cycle team, fostering professional development, succession planning, and cross-training. Create a culture of collaboration, accountability, and inclusion, ensuring staff are engaged and aligned with organizational values. Facilitate regular leadership development, process improvement workshops, and best-practice sharing across departments. Collaboration & Partnership Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Clinical Operations, Case Management, IT, and Compliance to ensure accurate clinical documentation and reimbursement alignment. Maintain relationships with external vendors (e.g., clearinghouses, early-out, bad debt, and coverage discovery partners), ensuring quality, compliance, and contract performance.

This individual must be familiar with laws and regulations regarding OIG, OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, and JCAHO as it applies to hospital owned physician outpatient clinics. The Clerical Specialist must have clear thinking and reasoning ability, must be able to adapt to emergency situations, and must make sound judgments independently. The Transportation Specialist's primary responsibility will be transporting non-emergent ambulatory patients to and from medical appointments in a safe, secure and professional manner using hospital provided vehicle. The Transportation Specialist may also transport lab, pharmacy, materials/supplies and/or specimens to and from designated clinics as appropriate. The Transportation Specialist must be compassionate, caring, reliable, responsible and personable.

Responsible for working in collaboration with Central Sterile Processing Team Leader and Surgical Services Supply Manager to meet regulatory / policy requirements for the decontamination, processing, sterilization, storage and documentation of all surgical instrumentation used throughout the facility, including remote areas. Under direct / indirect supervision, responsible to direct work flow; ensuring availability of appropriate instrumentation, maintaining work area and acquiring resources. Provides an efficient and effective service to ensure excellent patient outcomes and customer satisfaction.

The Utility Aide is responsible for: cleaning, sanitizing, and storage all service wares utilized in the department; removal of refuse and/or garbage to the proper receptacles; maintaining cleanliness of floors of the department; assisting in storage of supplies.

The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible to the Physical Therapist providing physical therapy services as directed. The Physical Therapist Assistant contributing to service line process improvement projects, conducting work activities according to departmental policy and procedure and under the supervision of a physical therapist. The scope of these activities is defined by the rehabilitation services processes which successfully integrate the organization mission, vision, and values.

The Information Systems Technician provides first response telephone support for all end users on a wide variety of hardware, network, software and server issues. When unable to resolve, refers caller to appropriate IS staff member. Documents customer trouble reports in help desk database system and contacts customers to clarify request and ensures all necessary information is included. Support users at all BMH facilities. Assists with remote sites and physician offices in planning, troubleshooting, testing, training and understanding PC based software, and Meditech, as well as assisting assigned departments with their information needs.

Performs quality Diagnostic Echocardiograms, fixed and portable, routine and emergent, inpatient and outpatient, for the purpose of patient diagnosis. Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathologies required to assist physicians in preliminary interpretations of all studies performed. Performs all examinations according to department protocol and physician direction. Responsibilities for complete patient throughput include, but are not limited to, scheduling, procedures, supply inventory, general housekeeping, patient transport, documentation, and communication with family, physicians and involved ancillary staff. Participates in department Quality Improvement activities and equipment quality control plans. Adheres to C orporate C ompliance initiatives, including proper coding, use of the charge master, and performance of Medical Necessity C hecks. The research nurse reports to the Director of Oncology Services and will serve as a liaison to the Medical University of South Carolina Research Staff. As a nurse navigator, the registered nurse will utilize nursing skills to evaluate and report to the physician and other healthcare professionals any physical, and/or psychosocial problems and special needs of the cancer patient. They anticipate the needs of the surgeon and the operating room team. Certified Surgical Technologist First Assists use their skills and knowledge to deliver safe and effective care for patients during surgical procedures.

The Clinical Information Systems Analyst is responsible for organizing and directing the implementation and support of new and existing clinical information systems (i.e., Laboratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, Order Communications, etc.). The Clinical Analyst shares the responsibility with clinical departments for optimal use of supported systems, including all planning, troubleshooting, testing, training and understanding the MEDITECH modules and other hospital software. The C linical Analyst must be knowledgeable of all hospital systems and how they relate to each other. Strong communication and project management skills are required. The position must be able to be a team leader and oversee all aspects of implementation and upgrade projects. The position functions a consultant to the hospital staff to utilize the system effectively to maximize productivity.
