The ISE will be scheduled to work only when another Registered Imaging Services Technologist is on-duty and will work closely with the Imaging Services Team Leader and Radiologist to produce the quality images in accordance with the department protocols. Incumbents may hold the ISE position for no more than 18 months. **Shift available:** Rotating/Variable **Status available:** Contingent **Required Qualifications:** + Completion of the first or second year of an accredited Imaging Services program and currently enrolled in the sequential year and/or program with minimum completion of 40% of Imaging Services program. + Radiology Technologist: Successful completion of first year of two-year accredited program + Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association **What the Imaging Services Extern will do:** + Prior to exam, screens patient for safety related issues such as verifying correct patient, appropriate clinical history for exam requested, correct order, etc. Uses two patient identifiers for all exams. + Perform exam utilizing proper technique, views, etc., for patient's condition and requested exam. + Complete patient related documentation in accordance with department and hospital policy. + Study is reviewed and completed in medical record according to modality and workflow specifications. + Review patient schedule to identify potential problems, incorrect orders, etc. + Maintain department supplies by notifying appropriate department personnel supplies that need to be ordered. + Attend training related to daily job functions such as medical record and radiology applications. + Identify and assist in resolution of problems related to safety, sanitation and maintenance of the environment. Provide quality patient care by considering the age specific, development and cultural needs through competent clinical practice. Demonstrate unit/area competencies. + Responsible for participation in student education and meeting the requirements as set forth by the program. + Performs other duties as assigned. Receives verbal prescriptions from physician for outpatient dispensing. 3. Reviews written medication orders to determine clarity, reasonable dose, schedule and appropriate medication usage. Consults directly with physicians if change or clarification is needed and enters appropriate clarifications in patient's charts. 4. Checks unit dose cart fill for accuracy and completeness against computer printout. 5. Compounds special topical and internal dosage forms not available through pharmaceutical manufacturers in accordance with established departmental practice. 6. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. 7. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, associates, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.     What you will work: Casual, 12 hour shifts What you will need: * High School Graduate * Current enrollment, and in good standing, in an accredited school of nursing, having completed two semesters of nursing school or is a recent graduate of an accredited school of nursing within but not more than, the past 12 months. * Current BLS What you will do: * Work under the supervision an RN * Assist the RN in the application of the nursing process to assigned patients. * Document assessments, interventions and patient response int eh Electron Health Record. A licensed nurse cosigns all documents by the RN Extern. * Collaborates with members of the health care team to ensure consistency and high quality patient care. * Assists the registered nurse by observing and reporting on patient conditions. You will be asked to submit one clinical instructor feedback form as well as transcripts showing you are in last year of Nursing school upon application and complete some testing. The nurse extern skills guidelines are as follows: Nurse Extern may perform include but may not be limited to (provided they have had theory related to procedure in school) with documentation co-signed by a licensed registered nurse: Admission assessment Initiate clinical path/care plan Document care given on appropriate records Pre-op preparation: Teaching Reviewing chart Monitoring and maintaining the following: Feeding pump JP drain Heating pad Specialty beds ICP CBI CPM Foley Cath Care Suction: NG, Salem, Pleuravac SP Cath Care Hemovac May perform the following clinical skills: * Foley insertion * Patient positioning * NG insertion * Suctioning * Dressing changes * Trach care * Suture/staple removal * Tube feedings * Vital signs * Wound care * Enemas Skills that MAY NOT be performed: 1. Maintaining IV's, IV pumps, PCA's, IVPB 2. Initiating or assisting with the administration of blood or blood products (except vital sign monitoring) 3. Passing medications 4.
