Under supervision of the registered nurse, performs a variety of tasks and services to assist in the provision of care and comfort for mental health patients. Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served; reports and records observations; contributes to the efficient functioning of the unit including answering telephones, directing unit traffic, and entering patient orders into the electronic medical record in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy. Provides a visible presence on the unit. Maintains a safe and secure environment for patients, visitor, employees, and physicians. Intervenes in difficult and sometimes physical situations to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, employees and physicians. All duties performed in accordance with established, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Qualifications
Education:
One of the following required:
Relevant healthcare program completion (e.g. certified nursing assistant, emergency medical technician-basic, medical assistant, personal care aide, etc.)
Completion or active enrollment in core nursing classes
Minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
CPR certification required, or obtained during nursing team onboarding process.
Obtain national certification as a psychiatric technician within 1 year of employment preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience performing the essential responsibilities of the mental health technician role.
Experience in Mental Health and/or Forensic work preferred.
Post high school education in Psychology or related field preferred.
One-year secretarial or comparable clerical experience strongly preferred.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Basic computer data entry skills, including the ability to enter, store and retrieve information.
Possesses updated knowledge and competency in using equipment related to job duties (i.e., gait belt, mobility devices, protection/safety equipment, etc.)
Demonstrates effective communication skills with the ability to relay information to/from patients, their families, and members of the care team. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Demonstrates initiative, self-direction, motivation, and a proven ability to work successfully with a variety of people and disciplines.
Successful completion of Nursing Team Onboarding, unit-based orientation, and clinical competency validation tool within 30 days of hire required.

Performs and documents nursing care measures to meet the physical needs of patients.

Collaborates with the nurse and security to manage patients in crisis.
Transports and provides continuous observation for all patients requiring testing or procedures in another department.
Required to provide 1:1 supervision for high-risk patients and/or equipment, as delegated by the nurse.
Maintain unit awareness through continuous monitoring of the milieu.
Controls the entry and exit of colleagues and visitors to the unit.
Provides constant monitoring of all legal proceedings.
Checks in visitors and ensures all visitor belongings are correctly stored before allowing access to the unit.
Unit Surveillance and monitoring cameras and alerting colleagues of potential safety issues.
Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, intercedes in disputes between individuals using verbal de-escalation techniques and skills, to diffuse potentially violent patient or visitor situations.
Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, physically manages combative, violent persons who endanger staff, physicians, patients or visitors.
Applies and maintains restraint devices and documents as delegated by the nurse.
Conducts continuous patient observation rounds every fifteen minutes.
Complies with established policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
Promotes efficient and effective functioning of the unit/hospital.
Completes assigned aspects of unit inventory management.
Assures adequate supplies are stocked and available.
Reviews receipts of new supplies and equipment upon arrival; validates accuracy and places supplies in assigned location.
Facilitates maintenance of equipment with Biomed or appropriate department.
Handles floor stock medications or medications delivered from Pharmacy directly or through the pneumatic tube system. Relocates these medications, in original containers, to designated secure storage locations or deliver directly to appropriate licensed staff.
Uses designated lines of communication and authority.
Facilitates telephone, verbal, written, and electronic communication with nursing staff, physicians, patients, and visitors promptly, accurately, and professionally.
Maintains cleanliness and safety of unit, service area and equipment.
May be required to flex into a different role or between the different psychiatric departments as required for adequate staffing.
Upholds the Illinois Mental Health Code, regarding patient rights and confidentiality.
Information Processing
Prioritizes stat orders and immediate needs.
Processes orders accurately.
Accurately inputs data into the electronic medical record and maintains accurate paper records for those items that are not computerized.
Refers patient/visitor concerns to nursing and/or customer service staff.

Providing mental health services within the school increases access to services for families who may not be able to go to an outpatient clinic on their own. School-Based staff go directly into the school to provide intervention, including: individual and group therapy, education/consultation for school personnel, and family therapy as needed.
PSG/CIP is a multi-service community-based social services organization that fulfills its mission of helping individuals and families to achieve their greatest potential through dynamic, cost effective and innovative programming responsive to the needs of diverse communities.
Ideal candidates will enjoy having summers off or reduced summer hours. Part-time summer hours are available in addition to those associated with the 9-month salary. KEY RESPONSIBILITES OF OUR SCHOOL-BASED THERAPIST:

Sessions take place between one RBT and one client and are typically scheduled for 2-4 hrs in duration. One RBT can have a caseload of 2-5 clients ranging in age from 2-25 and can expect to be scheduled anywhere between the time of 8:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and weekends. This can vary depending on the needs of our clients. A fully trained RBT therapist can receive, on average, 10-30 hours/week and there is opportunity for advancement into full-time.
Specific responsibilities include:
Introduce and run therapy programs developed by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) during a 1:1 session with a client
Take data during session while targeting different skills related to social skills, play skills, basic life skills (brushing teeth, potty training), etc.

Position Description:
The Behavioral Health Tech is an integral multidisciplinary team player at Inner Haven Wellness. Techs are involved in multiple areas of a client's daily experience in treatment, as seen below in specific duties.
Duties:
Responsible for supporting clients while in program including during meals and while in the milieu.
Serve as mentor, model and recovery coach to clients.
Complete required documentation on client's participation in meals and groups as needed.
Maintain positive & supportive attitude even during potentially challenging interactions with clients or families.
Attend required training on eating disorders provided by the program to maintain high quality care.
Help clients build relationships with other clients in the milieu and socialize appropriately.
Partner with the treatment team to carry out assigned tasks related to client's treatment plan.
Help clients de-escalate and ground themselves as needed, alert clinical team members
Model mindful eating with flexibility in regards to food choices. Eating adequately and at an appropriate pace with clients. Keeping meal conversations engaging and light, offering support as needed.
Providing feedback to clients as needed regarding meal/snack options and portions. Assisting them to make sure their nutritional needs are met.
Monitoring safety or bathrooms as needed.
Greet visitors, conduct admissions or provide tours of the program as needed.
Help to set up, food prep and clean up meals and snacks. Help maintain a neat and orderly milieu.
Assistant in maintaining a positive and recovery-oriented environment for staff and clients.
Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent preferred

Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Mental Health Technician Trainee at the Kiley Developmental Center located in Waukegan, Illinois. The incumbent will, for a period of time from six (6) and not to exceed twelve (12) months, receive instruction and training in providing care for individuals with developmental disabilities. Attends formal classes for instruction in routine nursing practices and techniques, behavior intervention skill development and to gain elementary understanding of the causes, nature and treatment of intellectual disabilities.
