  • Student Worker - PASS Drop-In Tutor

Palmer College of Chiropractic 4.2company rating

Behavior therapist job in Davenport, IA

Student Employment Opportunity: PASS Program Drop-In Tutor is for current Palmer College of Chiropractic students only. Palmer's PASS Program is currently hiring a student worker to serve as a Drop-In Tutor for the Fall term. Function: PASS tutors are motivated to help their peers be successful by learning how to learn and provide peer academic support to students in a variety of courses in turn, helping to shape students' experience at Palmer College of Chiropractic. The Palmer Academic Support Services (PASS) Drop-In Tutor is responsible for helping Palmer students in small groups or individually in D.C. academic courses. PASS Drop-In Tutors not only assist with the understanding of class materials, but also assist students in strengthening academic memory retention, comprehending the textbook, organizing assignments, and improving general learning and study skills. Students selected as Drop-In Tutors must meet and maintain certain qualifications to be part of the PASS program and are considered employees of the department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Attend the mandatory New Tutor Orientation at the beginning of employment. • Tutors will attend meetings periodically as a team and individually with the Coordinator of the PASS program and/or director of Academic Support Services. • Tutors contract for a specific number of hours per trimester based upon their schedule and availability. Any significant change in the number of hours worked or the times the hours are scheduled are to be discussed with the PASS Program Coordinator prior to making adjustments. • As a Federal Work Study student, Drop-In Tutors must submit accurate timesheets that comply with policies and procedures of Financial Planning and Academic Support Services and will be paid for hours scheduled or approved by the PASS Program Coordinator. All work study students are expected to act and treat their position as an employee of the college. Falsifying information related to a work-study position will result in permanent termination from the program and charges of misconduct may be filed under the Code of Student Ethics. • Tutors are expected to arrive prepared and on time for their posted available time in the Drop-In Center (Rm 110 of Hagen Student Union). If a tutor must cancel an available time, the PASS Program Coordinator should be contacted in advance so an announcement may be made to the class for which the tutorial supports, or a cancellation notice can be posted prior to the session. • Drop-In Tutors are to be present and available during their posted time regardless of number of students in attendance. Students who ‘drop-in' have the right to expect a tutor to be at their service when they arrive. • Tutors focus on clarifying, reviewing, enhancing, and reinforcing students' learning. Tutors aid with course content, study skills, note taking, time management, orientation, and test taking skills. • Tutor should NOT present new-uncovered material to the students. • Tutors are expected to maintain and submit accurate attendance lists for all Drop-In sessions. Attendance is conducted through a QR code that the student scans when they arrive for Drop-In services. It is a good idea for the tutor to record attendance as well in case the student forgets to scan the QR code, or it is not working. • All information provided by students to PASS Drop-In Tutors are confidential under FERPA. The PASS tutor may not share personal information pertaining to a student with anyone other than the Student Support Services department. A breach in confidentiality will result in dismissal from the program and ethics charges will be filed. Qualifications: • Tutors will be model academic students; with a minimum of 3.0 G.P.A. and have good basic study habits.
