Job Description:
The position of behavior staff will be to take part in working with and teaching children with disabilities as part of a team. The individuals who are chosen to work as a behavior intervention staff will be trained by ABSI's Behavior consultants and Behavior Specialists. All employees will be trained in the basics of Applied Behavior Analysis, specifically a teaching technique called Discrete Trial Training and Natural Environment Training. The training will also include information on how to implement other teaching methodologies that have proven to be helpful with children with autism, in addition to your role and responsibilities, and professionalism. The behavior intervention staff will specifically conduct structured teaching in the family's home and/or school environment. They are to implement changes made to the child's home program/school programs and ensure that they are taking daily data on each program/goal taught. The UW Autism Center (UWAC) is a nonprofit organization within the Institute on Human Development and Disability in UW Pediatrics and is devoted to supporting families affected by autism spectrum disorders through exceptional clinical services, innovative scientific research and high-quality training.
Position responsibilities include but not limited to:
PROVIDE INTERVENTION
* Provide direct 1:1 intervention to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in their homes as well as in clinic.
* Implement intervention protocols developed by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) to increase skills/reduce problem behaviors and using principles of applied behavior analysis. Tailor procedures to fit individual interests/needs.
* Provide responsible, positive, sensitive intervention and care during therapy and will work under close supervision of masters level clinical staff.
DEVELOP MATERIALS
* Create picture cards, books, etc. as needed for the therapy program.
* Produce motivation charts, token boards, visual schedules, play materials, etc.
MANAGING RECORDS AND ORGANIZING THERAPY SPACE
* Organize and maintain computer and paper records of therapy including collecting and accurately recording data in each therapy session, graphing data and completing treatment notes.
* Maintain home and clinic therapy spaces in an organized, clean, and child-proof manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Two years of college-level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of appropriate experience OR equivalent education/experience.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in related field (psychology, education, human/child development).
* Training and experience in early intensive behavioral intervention for children with autism, early intervention for toddlers, developmental psychology, behavior analysis, special education, or related fields and experience working directly with children and families with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
* Ability and willingness to interact with children in a spontaneous and creative way.
* This position involves physical care which may require moving children between the ages of 12-48 months.

Part I: Position Summary:
The Behavior Specialist will work with a special focus on the needs of students with significant behavioral challenges who may or may not be qualified for special education. This individual will collaborate with school administrators, counselors, and psychologists as well as members of Student Support Teams at individual buildings to provide support to students, school staff and parents in the development of a behavioral program for individual students that will promote a positive school climate and a successful learning environment.
The Behavior Specialist will be responsible for students with both strategic and intensive behavioral needs within a Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) framework and will be required to participate in the planning and implementation of research-based interventions selected as part of the district's PBIS Tiers 2 and Tier 3 programs. Additionally, the Behavior Specialist will work with school teams to develop an FBA and BIP for individual students and provide implementation support and monitoring. A minimum of five years of successful experience as a special education teacher, school psychologist, or related field in planning and delivering behavioral interventions for school-based youth with significant behavioral challenges is required.

Part II: Supervision and Controls over the Work:
The employee works with a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of a designated school administrator. Part III: Major Duties and Responsibilities (depending on specific assignment-duties and responsibilities listed may include, but are not limited to the following):
* Provides behavioral support and training to teachers, children, and staff. Responsible for the delivery of a structured environment that includes the use of diverse evidence-based strategies for the support of students with behavioral needs. Conduct functional behavioral assessments and design, implement and monitor behavior intervention plans for individual students.

* Trains and coaches staff in behavioral strategies around conflict and crisis management, anger control and goal-setting.

* Assists in the creation of a Transition Support program to ensure that students receive skills necessary for successful full-time re-entry in general education classrooms and for transition to district middle or high schools.
* Provides crisis response and management for students who are experiencing significant behavioral and emotional challenges.

Part IV: Minimum Qualifications:
