Arizona Autism Charter School is seeking dedicated team members to support the growth and development of students on the autism spectrum. Staff work at one campus location, follow consistent schedules, and receive ongoing mentoring, support, and professional development with opportunities for career advancement.
Under the supervision of the Applied Behavior Analysis Co-Director, Behavior Specialists implement ABA strategies in the classroom to help students access the curriculum and meet IEP goals. This is a school-year position with optional summer opportunities. Candidates should have classroom experience and a strong understanding of ABA principles. Behavior Paraprofessional positions are available for applicants with less experience.
Duties:
Assists in the implementation of instructional programs, including self-help and behavior management, as well as instruction.
Work as part of a classroom team to support academic instruction and behavior plans.
Execute lessons as directed by the teacher or classroom lead. These may include supporting independent work, special projects, or teaching a lesson to a small group.
Assist with classroom planning and preparing materials with the classroom teacher.
Assist students in participating in classroom routines, transitions, and self-care tasks as necessary.
Implement behavior intervention techniques in alignment with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) as directed by the ABA Manager or Campus Director.
Mentor and train Paraprofessionals on best practices.
Follow tier-one behavioral supports and behavior plans as directed.
Able to obtain and maintain QBS certification.
Strong adherence to policies as outlined in the AZACS Employee Handbook.
Maintain professional conduct and appearance.
Work with special education students may include lifting, feeding, changing, toileting, and other services.
Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
Other duties as assigned by the Managers and Directors.
Minimum Qualifications:
At least 1-2 years of experience in a classroom setting.
Must have an understanding of behavioral characteristics associated with autism and other behavioral issues.
A strong foundation in applied behavior analysis is preferred.
Has good communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with parents and education professionals.
Has a basic understanding of instructional methods and education curriculum.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
Must be able to handle emotionally charged situations.
Has the ability to train other people to apply behavior management techniques effectively.
Track record of success in behavior management with students with autism or other special needs
Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance
Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality
A valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card is required

Behavior Technician will complete a training program set by the clinical team to prepare the employee to become a Registered Behavior Technician. Once this exam is passed you will have the responsibilities listed below:

This position requires the ability and mobility to perform physical de-escalation techniques as necessary, and to take and pass a physical de-escalation exam. This includes the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist: to lift, carry, push, and/or pull a moderate amount of weight.
Performs other related duties as assigned or necessary as they relate to the general nature of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education - High school diploma or GED required. Associates degree preferred.
Experience - Six months of related experience preferred. 6 weeks of verifiable supervised behavioral health work experience preferred, company will provide if necessary.
REGULATORY:
Minimum 18 years of age.
DPS Level I fingerprint clearance (must possess upon hire and maintain throughout employment).
CPR, First Aid, AED certification, if required (must possess upon hire and maintain throughout employment).
Current, valid Arizona Driver's License and 39-month Motor Vehicle Report and proof of vehicle registration liability insurance to meet insurance requirements.
Initial current negative TB test result, if required (Employer provides).

General Purpose: The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides direct one-on-one behavioral interventions to teach communication, social, and daily living skills and reduce problematic behaviors in the home, community, and school settings (if appropriate). Behavior Technicians will utilize interventions developed out of the science of Applied Behavior Analysis.
Immediate Supervisors: BCBA.
Responsibilities:
Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationship by pairing self as a reinforcing entity and building the value for the client of social interaction with the RBT.
Prompts safe and socially acceptable replacement behaviors in order to build a repertoire of communication, social interaction, and problem-solving skills.
Fades prompts appropriately to promote both successful and independent responding.
Increases the frequency of duration of safe and appropriate replacement behaviors by providing access to reinforcers (desired items/actions, attention, or removal of demands/aversive situations).
Accurately collects behavior data including: A-B-C, count, frequency, duration, latency, inter-response time, event, and interval based recording.
Completes each session with a session and follows the session note writing guidelines.
Follows the treatment plan goals and interventions utilizing sound judgment and seeks out appropriate consultation.
Collaborates with family and BCBA to provide treatment effectively and without disruption to the environment or other individuals in the environment.
Educates parents on reinforcement and early intervention information.
Educates all those involved about the role of ABA based interventions and the RBT, and functions within boundaries of the RBT role in providing treatment.
Emphasis on avoiding multiple-relationships.
Reassessment as appropriate and guided by the direction of the BCBA.
Responsible for making sure you are meeting the 5-10% supervision requirement.
Qualifications:
Minimum requirement: High School Diploma and preferred is two years of completed coursework in psychology, education, social work, behavioral science, human development, or related fields.
Must currently hold the 40 hour RBT Training certification. RBT must maintain certification as a Registered Behavior Technician as issued by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
