The Registered Behavior Technician in Training (RBT) serves in a hybrid role that combines direct Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) service delivery with leadership, training, and administrative support responsibilities. Working under the guidance of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), classroom teacher or program supervisor, the RBT supports the educational and residential needs of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This position plays a key role across the agency's school and residential programs and contributes to the implementation of evidence-based practices, including Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). The RBT also assists with oversight of support staff and ensures compliance with certification standards and programmatic expectations set by supervising BCBAs. RBTs support the agency as a whole and are embedded within both school and residential settings to ensure consistent behavioral support and high-quality care. Job Brief: Behavior technicians are responsible for assisting in maintaining safety within the school environment by responding to behavior events and working collaboratively with school personnel. Under the direction of Administrators and Behavior Analysts, technicians work to maintain trusting and positive relationships with students; offering support and positive programming. They maintain necessary documentation of behavior events and required data consistent with state reporting. The technician attends team meetings as designed for the assigned program. Behavior technicians may provide transportation support through available posted positions. At times, a technician may drive students for afterschool activities and trips and may be called upon to provide morning and afternoon transportation support for the program. The Behavior technician acts as a resource within the building to assist staff in understanding and improving behaviors. Job Summary: The Behavior Technician will provide clinical skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to children with Autism and related developmental disabilities in the home, community, and school settings. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Duties/Responsibilities: Provides ABA therapy to children with Autism Spectrum and related disorders. Assists BCBA in implementing behavioral programming in a 1:1 setting. Immediately reports to BCBA any patient incidents/variances or complaints. Participates with all other educational and therapeutic professionals in patient care planning. Attends staff meetings and patient care conferences as scheduled. Adheres to Agency standards and consistently interprets and accurately performs all assigned. Provides direct care to clients in a one-on-one or group therapy setting to implement skill acquisition and behavior reduction treatments as directed by the supervisor. Collects and records data on patient behavior. Collaborates, communicates, and assists with the training of clients, parents, and staff. Qualifications Required Skills/Abilities: Maintains acceptable attendance status. Appearance is always within Agency standards; is clean and well groomed. Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Must be willing to travel to children's homes and schools, as needed. Education and Experience: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology, Education, Applied Behavior Analysis, Speech and Hearing Services, or related field, preferred but not required as long as work experience is present. Current RBT Certification is preferred but not required. At least one year of proven work experience as a Behavior Technician or similar role. Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to lift and carry clients with adaptive equipment. Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, standing) for extended periods of time. Must be able to sit on the floor or stand for extended periods of time. Must be willing and able to restrain/hold/transport and utilize quick body movements as indicated in the Behavior Intervention Plan in the course of working with children with challenging behavior.
