Role Description

The Opportunity

What You'll Do
Work closely with the Project Managers during the preconstruction phase.

We are currently recruiting for an Estimator to be based in our Chicagoland office which is located in Schiller Park, IL. As an Estimator for STRUCTURAL, you will be responsible for estimating complex self-performed construction projects that make our nation's structures stronger and last longer. Projects typically consist of concrete repair, masonry restoration, waterproofing, structural strengthening, fireproofing, etc.
As a successful candidate, you will also be responsible for:
Preparing estimates by calculating various statistical data such as quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man-hour, equipment costs and applying to complete scope of work
Defining and quantifying scope of work and preparing comprehensive conceptual, budgetary, and construction cost estimates for projects
Reviewing / researching historical data and compiling summary reports to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates
Maintaining involvement in uncovering sales opportunities with prospective and existing customers
Candidates who meet the following criteria may be considered for this exciting position:
Candidates with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Construction Management (desired not required)
3-12 years of construction estimating experience, ideally in a related industry involving self-perform, concrete repair projects.
Demonstrated ability to work with a team to estimate projects of moderate complexity up to $10 Million
Prior experience to estimate up to 5 projects directly and up to 5 estimates indirectly as a mentor
Ability to evaluate, quantify and capture specification requirements within the estimate
Prior experience working with terms & conditions in construction contracts
A strong understanding of the greater Chicagoland / Upper Midwest Industrial construction market, including current market prices and clients (i.e.: engineers, architects, property managers and owners)
Previous experience maintaining client relationships while performing light business development
Demonstrated construction math and computer skills including Microsoft Excel and / or construction estimating software. Must also be able to demonstrate ability to read blue prints
Ability to travel 20-30%

Leads in the training and development of cost engineers.
Provide feedback to estimate team members on work process / work product on a regular basis.
Works closely with new hires and/or new project teams to educate them on the way of doing business based on standard forms, programs and operational standards.
Provides support as needed to the project management teams as needed.
Creates projected budgets early in the design phase of a project.
Coordinates preconstruction planning with design team, contractors and clients.
As necessary, works with Executive Group on special initiatives, company goals and associate related training and/or programs.
Works with development or owner to coordinate the design and specifications on issues.
Leads the pre-construction team to ensure initial budgeting represents current market pricing, quality reporting.
Communicates with project management team, ownership, clients, subcontractors, vendors, etc. to provide quality results while mitigating project risks.
Keeps current with latest estimating technology and techniques.
Manages project budgets for preconstruction services.

Qualifications:
7+ years of experience as Sr. Cost Engineer / Junior Estimator / Estimator in commercial construction industry
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, or Civil Engineering preferred but not required
General Construction Knowledge
Knowledgeable in civil/site construction, foundation and structural systems, interior finishes, exterior wall systems, mechanical and electrical systems and the costs of these systems
Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
General knowledge of negotiated bids, hard bids, and GMP processes
Proficient in all estimating software programs used in preconstruction: On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Destini, Timberline, Building Connected, Assemble, Bluebeam, Power BI, BIM360, Excel, Word, MS Project
