Brooks and his Chamber of Commerce colleagues spearheaded the founding of Bellevue College in 1966, a year after that initial meeting at a Bellevue Steak House.
Opened in 1966 as Bellevue College, its aim was to provide education for working adults in the area.
By 1974 it had become the fourth largest private college in Nebraska and had added a gymnasium, student center, and library.
However, under its third president, John Muller, who took over in 1985, the college refocused, survived, and started to expand.
In 1987, the University offered its first accelerated degree completion program, the Bachelor of Professional Studies.
From those humble beginnings, Bellevue College –Bellevue University since 1994 – was born.
Bellevue University was one of the first accredited institutions to offer online degree programs (1996), and the first to offer a Master of Business Administration degree online.
Since then, Bellevue University has grown and established itself as one of the worldwide leaders in adult education, serving over 13,000 students annually (2014) at our main campus – and everywhere online.
