The goal of the Bettelli Lab at the Benaroya Research Institute is to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the development of autoimmunity and finding means to limit them. Responsibilities We are recruiting a highly motivated Research Technician to support and perform laboratory experiments on adaptive and innate immune cells. A variety of cellular and molecular techniques will likely be used to address the phenotype and functions of murine and human cells. This will include but will not be limited to flow cytometry, cell culture, gene expression analysis, cytokine quantification and immunohistochemistry. The Research Technician will support and collaborate with other lab members, and should be capable of maintaining detailed laboratory records, analyzing data, and reporting experimental results. The goal of the Harrison Lab is to understand how immune cells promote barrier tissue integrity and repair, and to understand how this goes awry during disease. This work-study position is for up to 19 hours each week. Responsibilities The individual in this position will be involved in projects exploring the immune response to commensal and pathogenic bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. The techniques likely to be used include DNA isolation, PCR and gel electrophoresis to conduct genotyping, basic flow cytometry of circulating blood immune cell populations, tissue sectioning, immunofluorescence staining and microscopy. They will also be responsible for general laboratory duties including preparation of stock solutions, lab stocking and maintenance.Students will gain experience in the following areas: conduct DNA isolation, perform PCR and gel electrophoresis, and determine sample genotype. A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Lacy-Hulbert Laboratory in the Center for Systems Immunology at Benaroya Research Institute. Research in the laboratory focuses on mechanisms of regulation of the innate immune system and how defects in these processes impact immune-mediated diseases such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and systemic autoimmunity. The open position focuses on the study of integrin-mediated activation of TGF-beta in the gut mucosa and intestinal epithelial cell biology, particularly in the context of IBD pathogenesis. The laboratory uses a range of approaches, including in vivo and ex vivo mouse models, primary human cell culture, and in vitro organoid cultures. Responsibilities Responsibilities include conceptualizing and executing experiments, data analysis, laboratory record keeping, and oral and written presentation of experimental results. The research associate will be expected to work collaboratively with other staff members in discussing projects, implementing experiments and preparing manuscripts and grant applications. BRI offers college undergraduates the chance to expand their learning experiences beyond the traditional classroom through its in-person Summer Internship Program. The 8-week internship offers top-achieving and highly motivated science students the opportunity to work and learn under the mentorship of BRI's renowned researchers. The 2026 summer internship will run from June 22nd - August 14th, 2026. This position is for 20 hours per week and will be paid $21.30 per hour. The Staff Scientist will be responsible for assisting with the design and execution of studies focused on antigen specific human T lymphocyte responses in the settings of health and disease. Duties will include performing experiments, complex data analysis, and the preparation of publication quality content for manuscripts and presentations. The Research Assistant will work with the Translational Research Program Clinical Research Coordinator to recruit participants, with and without autoimmune disease, for the Translational Research Program Immune Mediated Disease Registry and Repository. Responsibilities include data collection and administrative tasks, such as filing and data entry. Data collection tasks involve enrolling study participants, obtaining health history information via direct interview, and collecting and transporting biologic specimens, such as blood and tissue. A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Bettelli Lab (Immunology program). We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to conduct research on pathogenic and regulatory T cells in the context of autoimmunity and in particular Multiple sclerosis and its animal model experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). The successful applicant will pursue basic and clinical research using conditional KO, patient samples and mouse models of autoimmunity. Applicants must hold a recently completed (within the last 2 years) Ph.D. in Immunology or related fields and have a strong background in Immunology. Good communication skills, organizational skills, and a demonstrable publication record are required. This position is responsible for providing technical laboratory support for biomedical research projects performing both routine and non-routine lab procedures.
