Established in 1964 in a small East Texas town, Quinlan State Bank was the long-time dream of retired oil man Bruce Clardy.
Clardy served as Chairman of the Board of Quinlan State Bank, located near his ranch about 45 miles east of Dallas, until his grandson and current Chairman Michael A. Barnett took over in 1983.
In 1987, Barnett bought a failed bank in the Dallas-area and renamed the institution Benchmark Bank.
November 1989 – changed our name from WYBRO to Benchmark Federal Credit Union.
He also opened a title company, Benchmark Title Services, in 1998 to more completely serve customer needs.
Founded in 1998 as an affiliate of Benchmark Bank, Benchmark Title has been satisfying customers’ title needs for 20 years.
In 2002, Barnett sold all of the bank branches except one, and Benchmark opened its current headquarters in The Shops at Legacy in Plano.
When Jonathan Filgo was named President of Benchmark Title in 2007, a concerted effort was made to service the needs of the commercial client with the same superior service and attention to detail afforded our residential customers.
November 2008 – relocated our Main Office to a new facility located at 1522 McDaniel Drive, West Chester (intersection of Rt 3 & 352).
March 2011 – Benchmark went from a single-sponsor to a Multi SEG (Select Employee Group) charter, which allows us to expand our field of membership by offering credit union services to more employees.
In an effort to further meet the demands of a growing customer base, Benchmark Bank opened a branch on McKinney Avenue in Uptown Dallas in 2012.
That same year Benchmark Bank expanded to Austin at the corner of Lamar and MLK and, in 2013, a second branch was opened in Austin on W. 35th Street.
Benchmark Bank has been known for its personal service model for decades, but it wasn’t until 2014 that Benchmark Private Wealth Management was established as an Independent Registered Investment Advisor to more completely serve our clients.
June 2016 – Benchmark opened two new branches within Chester County: Downtown West Chester located at 323 E. Gay Street and Phoenixville located at 785 Starr Street.
Westlake's opening in early 2017 marked the third branch for the Austin area.
On October 1, 2018 Jonathan was announced as the CEO of the Benchmark family of companies, which includes Benchmark Bank, Benchmark Private Wealth Management and Benchmark Title, and industry veteran and attorney Ben Murphy was appointed the new President of Benchmark Title.
Greater Houston is the newest market for Benchmark Bank with our Houston Woodway branch opening in the Fall of 2019.
Benchmark Premium Finance was launched in 2021 and offers commercial insurance loans that allow clients to make payments on a customized schedule, freeing up capital to invest in areas that better suit their business needs.
