The Programming/Activity Assistant organizes and implements programs designed to meet the individual needs of our residents. The program is intended to fulfill basic psychological, intellectual, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs while promoting self-esteem in a caring, nurturing environment. The Programming/Activity Assistant supports and assists the Activity Director in all necessary programming. Responsibilities Assists in the development and implementation of an innovative seven day a week activity program that is engaging Responsible for leading and implementing one-on-one, small group and large group activities according to the programming schedule Supports, encourages and directs independent activity pursuits, both individually and in small groups Supports the resident's abilities by understanding that all aspects of care can be viewed as an activity Demonstrates knowledge about residents in regard to background, participation needs, physical abilities, interests, cognitive capacity and attention span capability Encourages and motivates residents to attend and participate in programming and activities Communicates any changes in the residents condition or behavior pattern to Harbor Care Director Stays with group at all times when on excursions Requirements Must have a high school diploma, bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and knowledge of aging and disability issues. Vehicle Maintenance and Supplies * Maintain all community vehicles in good working condition, including cleanliness, fully charged community cell phone, equipment, checking lights and operation of vehicle, fire extinguishers, first aid supplies, blood spill clean-up kit, and other safety equipment or assistive devices (step stool to assist residents on and off the vehicle). * Perform routine preventative maintenance as directed by Sunrise Senior Living policy, federal, and provincial requirements as applicable and all regular state/province and local inspections, permits, and registrations requirements. * Maintain all tools, equipment, and supplies in proper condition. * Assist with the Sunrise vehicle(s) registration and license plate renewal process. * Inspect and document vehicle condition on a monthly and per trip basis completing the approved Sunrise Senior Living forms. * Handle and store oxygen and other potentially dangerous materials in accordance with Sunrise Senior Living policy and authority having jurisdiction. Risk Management and General Safety * Partner with community team to ensure community is in compliance with national/provincial regulations pertaining to occupational health and safety, promoting Risk Management programs and policies, and adhering to safety rules and regulations. * Practice safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Lockout Tagout procedures. General * Complete and pass all pre-employment, post-accident, and annual random drug and alcohol screening as applicable per applicable regulations and policy. * Attend in-services as required by federal and provincial regulations and as needed. * Respond in a timely manner to requests and concerns from residents, family members, and team members. * Maintain and protect the confidentiality of resident information. * Notify the ALC and or RC of any resident concern and/or change in condition. * Report all vehicle accidents, incidents, and safety problems immediately to the Executive Director (ED). * Review, read, notate, and initial Daily Log and Maintenance Log for any needs and or requests and to learn about pertinent information and any resident's physical and behavioral changes. * Train Sunrise Senior Living team members on driving, driver assistance procedures "spotting", vehicle maintenance, and safety as needed. * Adhere to applicable regulations and Sunrise Senior Living policies pertaining to driving. * Assist in activities when there are no outings. The Memory Care Activity Assistant supports and assists the Activity Director in all necessary programming. Memory Care Activity Assistant Duties & Responsibilities: • Responsible for leading and implementing one-on-one, small group and large group activities according to the programming schedule • Assists in the development and implementation of an innovative seven day a week activity program that is engaging • Supports the resident's abilities by understanding that all aspects of care can be viewed as an activity • Demonstrates knowledge about residents in regard to background, participation needs, physical abilities, interests, cognitive capacity and attention span capability • Encourages and motivates residents to attend and participate in programming and activities • Communicates any changes in the residents condition or behavior pattern to Harbor Care Director • Stays with group at all times when on excursions Memory Care Activity Assistant Requirements: Must have a high school diploma, bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and knowledge of aging and disability issues. Memory Care Programming Coordinator Duties and Responsibilities: Coordinating, overseeing, implementing and evaluating community programming to enhance resident's experience, while developing and cultivating relationships with current residents, families and with community organizations Overseeing scheduling of events, trips, meetings, rooms, and group functions Developing, promoting, coordinating and overseeing community events Editing, producing and distributing a monthly community newsletter Requirements: Must have bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in knowledge of aging and dementia. Must be qualified by experience and training to develop a robust calendar of programs for elders and persons with dementia. Possess current CPR if required. Flexible Schedule- willing to work on weekends and holidays.
