Responsibilities

Acts as an Activity Assistant when on excursions; always stays with group except for when parking the van

Ensure passengers are safely assisted and secured in the vehicle before departing for destination.

Notify family member or contact of new resident transfer.
Notify the pick up and destination location of the time of arrival.
Qualifications
Twenty One (21) years of age required; high school diploma or equivalency preferred.
Minimum two (2) years experience in a driving related position.
Valid New York Class A, B, OR C (CDL) License with passenger endorsement. Must be clean driving record with no violations (zero points) and no accidents in the previous 36 months. Any violation is subject to individual review and subject to termination or disqualification to drive on behalf of the Company.
Initial and continuous compliance with Article 19-A of the New York Vehicle and Traffic Law, which includes among other things, investigation of prior employment, prior and ongoing driving record, penal law convictions and continually passing the medical examinations, required drug testing, vision and hearing tests required pursuant to New York State regulations.
Knowledge of local roadways and directions, which encompass driving routes.

We're looking for a Recovery Supportive Transportation (RST) Driver who is more than just a driver, someone who's a mentor, encourager, and trusted ally. You'll provide safe, reliable rides while offering peer support and encouragement to individuals walking their path of recovery.
At GAAMHA, every mile matters - because every ride is a step toward healing, dignity, and independence.
What You'll Do (and Why It Matters)
Be a Safe Guide: Transport participants to and from recovery-related services, appointments, and community activities while ensuring dignity and safety at every step.
Empower Through Connection: Offer peer-based recovery support and coaching during transit, building trust, compassion, and hope along the way.
Support Every Step: Assist riders with mobility needs (wheelchairs, seat belts, accessibility), ensuring no one is ever left unattended.
Shine as a Role Model: Use your lived experience to inspire confidence and show that recovery is possible through multiple pathways.
Link to Resources: Connect participants to community supports and networks that expand their recovery journey.
Keep Things Running Smoothly: Accurately complete mileage logs, timesheets, vehicle checklists, and participant notes.
Stay Prepared: Respond quickly to emergencies or unusual situations following GAAMHA's protocols - always keeping safety first.
Grow With Us: Attend trainings, team meetings, and supervision, bringing your voice and perspective to GAAMHA's supportive culture.
What You'll Need
High school diploma or GED
At least 3 years of driving experience with a clean driving record
Lived experience in recovery with 1 year of sustained sobriety
Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and a mobile phone
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Completion of CCAR Recovery Coach Academy & Ethics training (preferred - or must be completed within 6 months of hire)
All applicants must pass a pre-employment drug screen, CORI, and fingerprinting (fees covered by GAAMHA).
