This role ensures that individuals in the community receive or maintain access to essential mental health services by navigating the complexities of insurance, government assistance, and other benefit programs. Candidates must have expertise in insurance billing, eligibility verification, and claims correction. These roles typically require knowledge of payer systems (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurers), eligibility checks, and remediation of denied or erroneous claims. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to services, ensuring accurate documentation in the system. Process insurance enrollments, updates, and authorizations to support timely and accurate billing. Communicate with patients to explain coverage, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket responsibilities. Remain current on mental health services, Medicaid, and other state and federal benefit programs, including specific product options like QMB and SLMB. Help clients, and sometimes their family members, complete and submit applications for Medicaid, Social Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Provide support throughout the application process, including preparing appeals for denied benefits and following up with agencies like Social Security and Medicaid. Conduct meetings to educate clients on their insurance coverage, eligibility, and the options available to them for mental health and other community services. Gather, verify, and input clients' social, financial, and medical information into various applications and databases. Working with the Electronic Health Record (EHR) team to ensure accuracy and efficiency in billing and coding processes. Maintain accurate client benefits records, process enrollment changes and terminations, and track application statuses. Ensures claims are clean and free of errors prior to submitting to the billing department. Ensure benefits administration is compliant with federal and state regulations and prepare reports on Medicaid status and program efficacy. Audits medical record documentation to identify miscoded and under/up coded and training on accurate coding practices and compliance issues. Work closely with other identified clinical staff to ensure best clinical standards and coding is followed. Liaise between clients, families, providers, front office staff, and billing teams to resolve insurance-related issues. Submit and follow up on prior authorizations, referrals, and benefit inquiries with payers. Monitor payer portals and correspondence for updates, coverage changes, or denials. Educate patients about financial assistance programs or alternative payment options as needed. Ensure compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies in handling patient and payer information. Contribute to departmental goals of reducing denials, improving collections, and enhancing patient satisfaction. Completes all other assignments or duties as designated. Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent (Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred.) 2+ years of experience in insurance verification, benefits coordination, or revenue cycle operations. Valid Michigan Driver's License and Vehicle Insurance Knowledge of medical billing, insurance processes, and payer requirements. Strong communication and customer service skills. Payroll and Benefits Specialist The Payroll & Benefits Specialist is responsible for processing payroll, administering employee benefits, and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. This role requires strong analytical and detail-oriented skills, excellent communication, and dedication to upholding both regulatory standards and our company's value-based culture. What you will do: Payroll Processing * Process, verify and audit time sheets across multiple pay schedules, ensuring accuracy for salaries, wages, benefits, garnishments, and taxes * Handle full-cycle payroll for hourly and salaried, employees * Reconcile payroll discrepancies, investigate and resolve issues in a manner consistent with our value of Honesty & Integrity * Ensure timely and accurate reporting for federal, state, and local tax requirements, and maintain compliance with relevant regulations * Support loading payroll data into HRIS/payroll software and work with Finance on month-end and year-end close Benefits Administration * Manage employee enrollments, changes, and terminations for benefit programs including health insurance, retirement plans, and other company-offered programs * Serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries about benefits and resolve issues promptly and with a "customer-first" mindset, in alignment with our Extreme Customer Service value * Communicate benefit plan updates, coordinate annual open enrolment, provide training/support to employees, and collaborate with third-party benefit vendors * Ensure benefit records are accurate, confidential, and maintained in compliance with relevant laws and regulations Compliance & Reporting * Ensure all payroll and benefit activities comply with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, aligning with our value of Honesty & Integrity * Maintain confidential and accurate employee records and audit trails * Prepare and analyze periodic reports (monthly, quarterly, yearly) for management, HR and Finance * Assist with internal and external audits related to payroll and benefits Employee Support & Training * Support onboarding of new employees, including explaining payroll procedures and benefit plan options * Provide training and guidance to employees on payroll and benefits processes, contributing to the Learn & Train value by helping others grow and understand their role * Collaborate with HR and other departments to improve processes, increasing efficiency and supporting a Team Attitude of working together toward the company's objectives * Act as an internal customer support resource-serving employees with urgency, responsiveness and respect Position Requirements What you need to know and have: Education and Experience requirements * Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field preferred * Prior experience in payroll processing, HRIS, benefit administration, or a similar role with demonstrated accuracy and compliance Technical Knowledge * Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., Paychex, or similar) and HRIS systems * Strong Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis) and general comfort with spreadsheets, reporting and reconciliations Professional skills * Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy * Excellent organizational and time-management skills, the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment * Strong interpersonal and communication skills with employees, vendors and internal teams-upholding the Team Attitude and Extreme Customer Service values * Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with integrity, aligning with our core value of Honesty & Integrity * Proactive, with a mindset of continuous learning and improvement-reflecting the Learn & Train value * Commitment to the company culture of community involvement and teamwork-willingness to support community initiatives and internal culture efforts Company Benefits Great benefits package, including Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance.
