1976

1976: Acer Computers is founded as Multitech.

1984

The BenQ Group was founded on April 21, 1984, and is an IT company acting worldwide.

1984: Computer OEM components and systems subsidiary, Continental Systems, is established.

1986

After Multitech adopted the Acer trade name in 1986, the subsidiary became known as Acer Continental.

1989

After being passed over for the CEO position at the Acer parent in 1989, Lee left the company to take a position in Lausanne instead.

1991

In 1991, the name was changed into Acer Communications & Multimedia, probably due to marketing reasons and customer presence.

1992

1992: The company opens a production subsidiary in Malaysia; a sales and marketing subsidiary is opened in the United States.

1993

1993: A manufacturing subsidiary is established in Suzhou, China.

1994

By 1994, Acer Peripherals had succeeded in producing its first 2X CD-ROM drive.

1995

Arriving back at the firm, Lee was placed in charge of the Acer Peripherals subsidiary. It also coincided with K.Y. Lee's return to Acer in 1995.

1996

Since 1996, the company expanded.

1997

Meanwhile, Acer Peripherals had spotted the potential of the market for mobile telephone handsets, and in 1997 the company debuted its first GSM 900-compatible cellular phone.

1997: The company debuts its first LCD monitor; the company enters the mobile telephone market.

1998

The company backed up its diversification effort with the 1998 opening of a new production plant in Suzhou, called the Acer Suzhou Technology Park.

2000

The company also expanded through acquisition, buying Bri-Link Technology Co. in 2000.

As such, Acer Peripherals was itself spun off as a separate company, Acer Communications & Multimedia, in 2000.

2001

Finally in 2001, the BenQ company, with BenQ as the brand, is built.

2002

2002: The company changes its name to BenQ, derived from the company slogan, "Bringing Enjoyment and Quality to Life," and begins a drive to establish itself as a global brand name in computer and electronic peripherals.

2003

In 2003 Philips and BenQ´s Digital Storage comes out of Royal Philips Electronics and BenQ. The headquarters is in Taiwan but Sales and Marketing are handled by the BenQ Corp.

2004

Further the BenQ hospital had been built in 2004.

2005

BenQ owned following market shares in 2005: for 24% scanner, 14% projectors, 12% storage, 9,5% storage products and for 5% mobile phones.

The partnership started in the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2005.

2006

The turnover for cell phones had been 3.9 billion Euro in 2006.

The insolvency administrator Martin Prager said the possibility to find an investor is 50%. But the probability to find an investor until the end of 2006 is low.

2007

The court of Munich opened the insolvency process on 03.01.2007.

In the beginning of 2007 there had been several companies that were interested in BenQ Mobil.
