Fratelli Beretta, first opened its door as a small local meat processing business in 1812 serving the region since the time when Napoleone Bonaparte reigned in Europe.
Pietro Antonio Beretta was now working for the company, and in 1815 he began traveling throughout Italy in order to sell more gun barrels.
After Pietro’s death in 1850, his son, Giuseppe took over and encouraged the company to start making complete guns.
By 1860, Fabbrica d’Armi Pietro Beretta was making 300 firearms a year.
Beretta again began making military firearms after the unification of Italy in 1861.
By 1880, the production grew to 8,000 firearms a year.
In the early 1900's, Fratelli Beretta expanded to a manufacturing enterprise with a stable business structure that has thrived through two World Wars and The Great Depression.
At the time of Giuseppe Beretta's death in 1903, the company had 130 employees and a single 10,000-square-foot factory.
