Benefits eligible part-time 24-32 hours. 100% onsite and predominately early morning visits starting at 7:00AM, M-F. The IV Specialist in collaboration with the physician, is responsible for the implementation and evaluation of clinical research. The IV specialist has to have expert skills in: -attention to details and documentation practices -extremely good IV skills including children 8 years and older - applied daily, 3 children/day -excellent attendance record since children and families fly in from all over the US and must be met with nurse and meet FDA visit guidelines for timing of visits. Additional skills required include some knowledge of Type I Diabetes. Strong interpersonal, organizational, collaborative, and excellent communication skills across all age ranges are required. Commitment to continued learning and excellent interactions with team of about 8 members - physicians, clinical research assistants, research assistants, etc. Experience in pediatrics preferred. Responsibilities: · Works collaboratively and functions as an effective member of the research care team. · Punctual and reliable works with other members to ensure full coverage of patients. · Prior mastery of IV insertion daily in 8 -20 year old children; excellent blood drawing skills · Supports research activity within the Faustman Immunology Lab. · Conducts human research protocols in a carefully monitored controlled, yet dynamic environment to achieve quality outcomes for date research participant safety to support the lab research goals. · Collects and prepares required specimens for analysis and monitors test results, as appropriate. · Documents in StudyTrax as appropriate and communicates observations and findings to protocol investigator. · Participates in weekly research team meeting and ongoing collaboration with the study team to serve a s a resource person for study coordinators. · Monitors the environment of care with attention to patient safety and assures compliance with regulatory agency standards. · Participates in internal audits in collaboration with study coordinators in all active protocols. Qualifications · BSN preferred. · Minimum five years of experience with both Adult and Pediatric (8 years and older) IV and blood draws required.     The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), in the Division of Newborn Medicine, is a Level III/IV, 30-bed referral center for critically ill infants requiring complex medical and surgical care. A team from multiple specialties within the hospital provides advanced therapies and family centered care for infants from around the region and the world. We work closely with the Fetal Care and Surgery Center to coordinate both prenatal consultation and postnatal intensive care for infants with a wide range of prenatally diagnosed conditions. Neonatology attendings, fellows, pediatric surgical residents, and either neonatal nurse practitioners or pediatrician hospitalists are available on the unit 24 hours a day.     The Child Protection Program (CPP) at Boston Children's Hospital was established in 1970 by a multidisciplinary team of professionals who shared a commitment to improve the health and well-being of children by addressing the issues of family violence and child maltreatment. The core goal of the CPP since its formation is to ensure that children suspected of being maltreated receive appropriate medical care, psychosocial support, and advocacy to address immediate medical and safety needs. There are three distinct branches within the Child Protection Program: the Child Protection Team Consult Service, the domestic violence program (AWAKE), and outpatient clinical services. The RN Fellowship is an immersive program designed to support an experienced registered nurse, with an interest in transitioning in practice in Child Protection. Key responsibilities: Participating in didactic lessons, simulations, and practice-based learning as part of a multidisciplinary team. Addressing the epidemiology, signs and symptoms, risk factors, evaluation and interventions across the spectrum of child abuse, neglect and maltreatment in the hospital and ambulatory settings. Interacting with patients, families and peers in a variety of settings, including the outpatient Foster Care Clinic and Crisis Response Clinic, Primary Care, Emergency Department and inpatient settings.     The Vascular Access Service at Boston Children's Hospital provides vascular access care to patients and families across the lifespan. This program places 14,000 PIVCs and 800 PICCs annually throughout the enterprise, including critical care, emergency department, inpatient units, procedural areas, and ambulatory care settings. Phase 1 of orientation includes 12 weeks of training on PIVC Insertion, phlebotomy, dressing changes, and management of vascular access device complications. PICC training is encompassed in phase two, which begins after at least one year of experience; this entails a minimum of 12-16 weeks of simulation and hands-on experience. Key Responsibilities Insertion of vascular access devices, including PIVCs and PICCs, using transillumination devices, ultrasound guidance, and ECG technology. Performing other vascular access procedures, including phlebotomy on DIVA patients, routine infant PICC dressing changes and complex dressings with skin complications, clearance of occluded central catheters, management of malpositioned PICCs, and other device-related complications. Demonstrating critical thinking skills to incorporate empirical knowledge of vascular access with an understanding of various clinical diagnoses and scenarios to make appropriate decisions. Working in a fast-paced, physically rigorous environment for the duration of a shift. Triaging a high-volume vascular access consults. Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, including nursing, APRNs, house staff/attendings, child life specialists, respiratory therapists, pharmacy, etc., to coordinate care across multiple services.
