Position Summary
We are seeking a Surgical Technologist to join our Cardiovascular Operating Room
Key Responsibilities
Providing sterile instruments to surgical team during surgery.
Organizing and arranging sterile instruments and supplies.
Collecting and removing contaminated items at completion of cases.
Assisting circulating nurses in maintaining adequate stock of sterile supplies.
Working collaboratively in a family-centered peri-operative environment.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma required.
Associate's degree preferred.
Experience
1 year of OR experience as a Surgical Technologist.
1 year of cardiovascular OR experience preferred.
Pediatric experience preferred.
Licensure/Certifications
A certificate from a Surgical Technologist program.
Employment as Surgical Technologist in a surgical facility on or before July 1, 2013, or Individuals who have completed a training program for surgical technology in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service in lieu of a certificate from a Surgical Technologist program.

Summary
The Surgical Technologist is responsible for planning, preparing, and maintaining surgical instrumentation and the surgical field peri-operatively. The Surgical Technologist also performs various related activities post-operatively in relation to room and instrument decontamination.
This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
This position reports to the Nurse Manager, Operating Room and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
* Provide emotional support to patients when appropriate.
* Perform surgical skin prep using principles of aseptic technique.
* Provide appropriate barriers when draping sterile field.
* Demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures by anticipating needs and preparing equipment in advance.
* Demonstrate knowledge of surgical instruments and update surgical trays as necessary.
* Perform ongoing assessment of operative procedure.
* Determine deviations from the norm and provide for the indicated supplies and equipment.
* Under the direction of the surgeon, retract tissue, hold tissue, suction body fluids, and sponge and irrigate without harm to body tissue.
* Under the direction of the surgeon, cauterize bleeders if it is essential to the progress of the case.
* Communicate unusual occurrences at the sterile field to the circulating nurse.
* Safely assist in the moving and positioning of patients.
* Perform surgical counts in a safe and efficient manner.
* Ensure that appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment are assembled for procedures.
* Ensure that room sets are thorough.
* Research case requirements when indicated.
* Perform surgical hand scrub per CDHC policy.
* Use principles of aseptic technique in all aspects of job, including opening sterile supplies.
* Reprocess instruments when needed.
* Assist with room clean up, mindful of minimizing turnover time.
* Perform autoclaving functions.
* Collaborate with other OR and Childbirth team members, surgeons, and management team to solve problems and improve care delivery.
* Communicate problems and related information to the appropriate person.
* Assume role of preceptor in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and Charge Nurse to ensure a systematic and effective orientation program.
* Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, compliance, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
* Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences or in-services, professional affiliations, or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise.

Job Summary
Working under general direction of the Practice Manager, the incumbent is responsible for effectively communicating with the oral surgery team while assisting during all phases of the clinical sessions. Accurately prepares each room with equipment and supplies and assists with oral surgical procedures including taking vital signs, digital images and x-rays and reviewing post-operative instruction to patients.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares patient for treatment; review medical and dental history and consult with medical practitioner. Conducts oral exam and takes vital signs, making appropriate notations in patient record and verbally reporting findings to physician.
The surgical assistant is responsible for making sure all rooms are properly stocked with instruments, forms etc. and correctly decontaminates rooms after each procedure.
Accurately takes impressions, bite registrations and fabricates models for pre-operative Orthognathic and trauma patients; prepares patient for procedures; cleans, sterilizes and sets up operating room.
Using established written guidelines provides pre- and post-operative information to patients being admitted to Surgical Day Care Unit. (i.e. post-extraction instruction, care of wire jaw, nutritional guidelines for fracture and orthognathic patients).
Assists Oral Surgical staff with procedures and patients under local, nitrous oxide, I.V. valium and deep sedation and general anesthesia; under direct supervision of surgeon, performs extra- and intra-oral procedures* (i.e. suture removal, dressing changes, irrigations, changing elastics).
Exposes x-rays; ensures that x-rays are of adequate diagnostic quality.
Performs selected clerical tasks as needed and all other task as assigned by the physicians and the Practice Manager.

This Anesthesia Technician - Cardiac position supports the safe and efficient care of patients receiving anesthesia. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining anesthesia equipment, assisting anesthesia providers during procedures, and ensuring proper preparation of anesthesia machines, carts, and specialized equipment. This role is part of the perioperative team with a focus on cardiac care.
Shift: Evenings from 2:00PM - 10:30PM
Key Responsibilities:
* Clean, maintain, and stock the anesthesia workroom and equipment in all operating rooms and satellite anesthetizing locations
* Assist anesthesia providers in the safe and efficient care of patients receiving anesthesia
* Provide specialized equipment to support anesthesia staff when needed
* Prepare anesthesia machines and carts for use the following day
* Assemble and prepare intravenous (IV) solutions for anesthesia providers
* Collaborate with the perioperative team to support prompt OR turnover
* Assist with difficult airway management by providing necessary equipment (e.g., video laryngoscope, fiberoptic intubation cart)
* Prepare age-appropriate anesthesia equipment, monitors, and airway support
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
* High school diploma or equivalent G.E.D. is required
Experience:
* 1 year of work experience in a hospital setting required. Experience in anesthesia, Cardiology or EMT areas is strongly preferred
The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
