Bethany Lutheran College company history timeline
In 1927 the Norwegian Synod, later known as the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS), purchased the college.
Since its founding in 1927, Bethany Lutheran College has had ten presidents.
During these early years the hope of establishing its own seminary had been kept alive, but not until 1931 did the convention authorize its president to appoint a committee of three to prepare a plan.
Milton Otto joined the staff and was named dean of the seminary in 1968.
At this time the Regents created the office of dean of students, to which position Professor Juul Madson, a member of the staff since 1970, was appointed.
The 1974 convention of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod resolved that the seminary presidency be separated from the college presidency.
The Lord of the church continues to bless this “school of the prophets.” Therefore a seminary building was erected on the property at 447 North Division Street and was dedicated on June 18, 1978.
In May 1996, the Board of Regents resolved to start moving Bethany from an associate to a baccalaureate degree-granting institution.
