Drive the routes as assigned without deviation unless authorized to do so or specific emergency and common sense dictates otherwise for that incident. Maintain good driving habits, practice defensive driving over city, county, and state streets and roads under all types of weather conditions and exercise extra caution when driving around school buildings where children are present. Provide support and instruction to students in order to understand school bus safety rules. Conduct safe and orderly loading and unloading of students. Provides guidance to bus associates in the performance of their respective assignments and duties; providing training as needed. Maintains safety precautions when passengers are boarding and departing the bus. Transports only authorized students and sponsors. Reports trespassing violations to the supervisor. Discharges students only at authorized stops. Determines appropriate action in emergency situations according to established guidelines; administers first aid to passengers as needed. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information. Utilizes two-way radios for the bus to bus and bus to base communications. Reports all accidents, injuries, and delays to the supervisor promptly. Completes required reports.     This is an on-call position based on the Estherville Campus including morning, afternoon, evening, and overnight hours. Hours will vary depending upon the request. Primary responsibilities are to obey all traffic laws, perform inspections of the bus before and after each route, ensure the safety of all students, and maintain a clean and mechanically sound bus at all times. Valid CDL license (required), air brake endorsement is not required. The successful candidate will have experience driving a bus and will transport students for field and athletic trips. Position: On-Call Bus Driver Classification: Classified Department: Facilities Report To: Director of Facilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (% OF THE TIME): Constant (67-100%) * Perform inspection of the bus before and after each route. * Ensure the safety of all students. * Maintain a clean and mechanically sound bus at all times. Frequent (34-66%) * Report all needed maintenance repairs to appropriate personnel. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: * Represent the College in a positive manner to other employees, students, visitors, and the community. SPECIAL DEMANDS: Light to medium work. Position requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally (10-33%); up to 20 pounds frequently (34-66%), and up to 10 pounds constantly (67-100%) to lift or move objects. Must be able to perform routine stooping, bending, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions continually (67-100%). Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check, pre-employment drug screening and ongoing drug screenings. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
