In 1903 Beverly became the site of the United Shoe Machinery Corporation (USMC), a company that designed and manufactured machines for making shoes.

Lawrence + Memorial is a non-profit, 280-bed general and acute care hospital providing patient care to medical, surgical, pediatric, psychiatric and obstetrical patients in southeastern Connecticut since 1912.

In 1913, the Yale School of Medicine and New Haven Hospital signed their first formal affiliation agreement, which marked the beginning of the modern medical center.

Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. worked in the newspaper business until he was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1931.

However, in the late 1940’s downtown began to resume a normal and stable economic life.

The principles on which Beverly Hospital was founded in 1949 have not changed, and the spirit of dedication to the community that guided the founders is still very much alive.

Since first opening its doors in Gainesville in 1951, Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) has added hospital campuses in Braselton, Barrow and Lumpkin.

In 1965, a more formal agreement with Yale officially created Yale New Haven Hospital.

NEMS became a federally qualified health center (FQHC) in 1992 and has received federal funding through the Community Health Centers (CHC) program since inception.

In 1999, NEMS formed a managed care Management Services Organization (MSO) to provide medical services for Medi-Cal, Healthy Families and Healthy Kids patients from the San Francisco Health Plan.

To meet the growing demands for its services, NEMS opened its first satellite clinic in San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley in 2000.

Established in 2010, Northeast Medical Group (NEMG) is a System-wide physician group designed to create opportunities for better collaboration, quality of care and physician alignment.

On September 12, 2012, Yale New Haven Hospital acquired the assets of the Hospital of Saint Raphael, located on Chapel Street in New Haven and now named Yale New Haven Hospital Saint Raphael Campus.
