Heavy Equipment Operators are responsible for safely operating various heavy equipment that perform the spreading, compaction, and/or loading of commercial and residential Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) or recyclable materials. Responsibilities of Position: * Perform efficient safe operation of all heavy equipment including, but not limited to, bulldozers, graders, excavators, backhoes, front end loaders, wheel loaders, off road dump trucks, and other equipment as required * Conduct pre-trip/post-trip inspections on heavy equipment and complete necessary documentation * Perform routine maintenance on equipment, (i.e., lubricating, fueling, and cleaning equipment) * Operate various equipment for general site preparation, landscaping, snow removal, and/or related assignments * Continuously monitor the equipment to ensure proper operation and minimal down time, while also remaining aware of surroundings * Interact with internal and external customers * Clean waste from equipment body, cab, and wheels throughout the day * Performing on-site Roll Off work to switch trash compactors as needed based on locations * Operating the yard tractor on site to move and stage trailers as needed based on locations * *Specific to Boyd County - Hazardous waste management to safely move waste materials in a manner that does not damage the tanks/containers they are held in or endanger personnel or equipment * Perform other duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibility: * This position will not manage employees. Responsibilities: Direct customers on where and how to dispose of their waste at the SWACO Residents Pad Provide excellent customer service by answering questions, offering guidance on waste disposal procedures. Actively listen to customer feedback, promptly address concerns, and maintain a clean and organized Residents' Pad. Job Description The Solid Waste Equipment Operator operates, monitors and maintains a variety of equipment, buildings, and systems which support the operation of the landfill. Essential Job Functions: Performs the daily operation of the Solid Waste Facility, including the operation of landfill gas and leachate collection systems, operation of light and heavy equipment. Operates surveying equipment to maintain grades and elevations. Documents and reports inspection, cleaning and maintenance of equipment. Record keeping for all facility operations, including regulatory compliance data, maintenance logs, inspection forms, mileage/hour records, etc. Operational duties including housekeeping, modifications and maintenance of the inactive areas of the landfill. THIS POSTING IS FOR SEASONAL EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II - SNOW PLOW DRIVERS. Employees with satisfactory work performance at the end of the season may be eligible for recall in subsequent seasons. The winter season typically runs November - April, weather dependent. Permanent Equipment Operator II will be posted separately if/when needed. Operates salt spreader and heavy trucks with plow attachments for snow removal and ice control purposes. When not operating equipment, participates in and/or leads workcrew activity. Performs related work as required. A minimum of one year of paid experience in operating moderately complex automotive equipment, or successful completion of the City's CDL Training Program. Possession of a valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver's License, Class B, with no air brake restriction. Knowledge of and skill in the effective and safe operation of City-owned moderately complex automotive equipment in traffic and in and around workcrew areas. Knowledge of the component parts of such equipment, the performance limits, and the preventative maintenance necessary to keep equipment in satisfactory operation. Knowledge of the traffic laws of the State of Ohio and the City of Akron. Ability to lift up to 80 pounds. Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors and the general public. Ability to read and write and to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform a variety of laboring tasks. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions. Ability to effectively lead workcrew activities. Ability to safely operate motor vehicles and construction equipment. List of essential job functions available upon request.
