The Role
BGC is seeking student interns with a passion for applied earth sciences and a dedication to learning in a technically challenging and inspiring team environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, relevant work experience and a desire to travel and work in diverse and remote conditions.
BGC provides an opportunity for student interns to develop practical skillsets and gain experience within the field of geotechnical and geoscience consulting. Student interns at BGC can expect a mix of office and field-based project work that supports a wide variety of clients in the mining, pipeline, transportation, energy, and community sectors, completed under the guidance of technical experts.
Typical field work includes site investigations (including drilling, testing pitting, lab testing, geophysical surveys, instrumentation installation, river/stream inspection, and geohazard assessment) and construction monitoring (including dam, pond, and ditch construction, fill placement, foundation excavation, assessment and approval, and instrumentation installations and monitoring). Field work could range from a couple days up to approximately 2-week long field stints in remote areas, and multiple shifts, or a scheduled rotation. The balance of office and field work varies, though BGC strives to get student interns into the field with BGC's professionals whenever possible.
Typical office work includes reporting and interpretation of field data, supporting data management and data entry, interpretation of instrumentation data, and contribution to designs.
Required Education, Experience and Competencies
Enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a relevant undergraduate degree in Civil (Geotechnical/Hydrotechnical/General) or Geological Engineering, Geoscience, Geology, Geophysics or a related field

As required by sb19-085 (8-5-20): the Colorado specific base salary range for this position is $60,000-$64,000 USD per annum, however base pay will be commensurate with job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base salary is pro-rated for the term of employment.

Key Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

The Role
BGC is seeking a Junior Instrumentation Engineer with a passion for applied earth sciences and a dedication to lifelong learning in a technically challenging and inspiring team environment. The Junior Instrumentation Engineer will work under the supervision of senior engineers on BGC's Instrumentation Team, which supports BGC projects with design, installation, and maintenance of geotechnical and environmental instrumentation systems, along with data processing, visualization, interpretation, and reporting. The ideal candidate will eagerly apply technical knowledge in the field and office environments in support of the Instrumentation Team's projects.
Responsibilities
Design, install, and troubleshoot geotechnical instruments and data collection and transmission systems with support and guidance from team members.
Travel to work sites, frequently outdoors in remote or challenging environments which require hiking with heavy equipment and off-road UTV/ATV skills. Up to 30% travel time, typically no longer than 2 weeks at once.
Program data loggers using various software, sometimes requiring basic coding skills.
Prepare documentation including field reports, quality control records, and system drawings.
Manage real-time instrument data flow and visualization
Maintain safe work practices and comply with health and safety policies.
Required Education, Experience & Competencies
Bachelor's or Associate degree in relevant academic program, such as Engineering (General Engineering, or specialties such as Geotechnical, Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical), Computer Science, Automation, or Electronics.
0-3 years of relevant experience in instrumentation, monitoring, or data systems.
Proficiency with hand and power tools, as work typically involves using screwdrivers, wrenches, drill, saw, voltmeter, etc.

Compensation
The estimated base salary range for this position is $70,000-$85,000 USD per annum, however base pay will be commensurate with job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. BGC's compensation package also includes a discretionary bonus plan, training allowance, and comprehensive medical and dental plan.
