The Role
BGC is seeking student interns with a passion for applied earth sciences and a dedication to learning in a technically challenging and inspiring team environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, relevant work experience and a desire to travel and work in diverse and remote conditions.
BGC provides an opportunity for student interns to develop practical skillsets and gain experience within the field of geotechnical and geoscience consulting. Student interns at BGC can expect a mix of office and field-based project work that supports a wide variety of clients in the mining, pipeline, transportation, energy, and community sectors, completed under the guidance of technical experts.
Typical field work includes site investigations (including drilling, testing pitting, lab testing, geophysical surveys, instrumentation installation, river/stream inspection, and geohazard assessment) and construction monitoring (including dam, pond, and ditch construction, fill placement, foundation excavation, assessment and approval, and instrumentation installations and monitoring). Field work could range from a couple days up to approximately 2-week long field stints in remote areas, and multiple shifts, or a scheduled rotation. The balance of office and field work varies, though BGC strives to get student interns into the field with BGC's professionals whenever possible.
Typical office work includes reporting and interpretation of field data, supporting data management and data entry, interpretation of instrumentation data, and contribution to designs.

You will contribute to the development, integration, and optimization of Loft's Ultimate Edge SDK, which provides unified compute capabilities across various embedded platforms. Your primary focus will be on NVIDIA Orin-based systems, while also assessing portability and performance on additional hardware targets.
Your mission will include:
Integrating ONNX‑based inference runtimes and image‑processing frameworks (e.g., ONNX Runtime, OpenCV) into Loft's SDK.
Configuring and optimizing GPU‑accelerated and heterogeneous runtime environments, ensuring efficient use of available resources.
Profiling, benchmarking, and performance tuning across multiple embedded platforms.
Collaborating with other teams in Loft to ensure smooth deployment of edge applications.
Supporting the continuous improvement of Loft's onboard compute stack through structured testing, documentation, and validation.
Your work will directly contribute to flight software robustness, system performance, and future onboard computing capabilities for Loft missions.
About this Role
Integrate and optimize runtime components (ONNX Runtime, OpenCV, etc.) within the Ultimate Edge SDK.
Develop, configure, and tune GPU‑accelerated pipelines on NVIDIA hardware.
Benchmark and profile workloads to assess performance, portability, and resource usage.
Support application deployment in real‑time, embedded, and constrained environments.
Contribute to documentation, validation, and continuous integration of runtime components.
Must Haves
Master‑level background in embedded systems, computer engineering, AI/ML, or software engineering.
Solid experience with C++ and/or Python.
Familiarity with Linux‑based embedded environments.
Understanding of ML inference frameworks (ONNX Runtime, TensorRT, etc.).
Strong experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and exposing processing capabilities or services from containerized workloads
Experience with hardware‑accelerated processing (e.g., GPUs, TPU…) to optimize performance for compute‑intensive workloads.
English communication skills (written & verbal) for international collaboration.
Nice to Haves
Experience with the NVIDIA ecosystem: CUDA, Orin, Jetson platforms.
Knowledge of heterogeneous compute environments and optimization.

Responsibilities

Perform data analysis and Quality Control of both custom-built and commercially developed assays.
Communicate and coordinate with other members of the division, study coordinators and other departments.
Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and comply with all regulations and safety requirements.

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline with at least 3 years of qualified experience, preferably supporting drug discovery & development or direct pharmaceutical product development (preclinical and/or clinical experience).
Candidate Qualifications:
3+ years of wet laboratory experience.
Experience with immunoassays including Western Blot, ELISA, and Luminex/MSD multiplex. Experience in clinical chemistry and hematology is a plus.
Excellent analytical, writing, presentation and organizational skills.
Excellent computer skills, as demonstrated by proficiency with Microsoft Office and statistical analysis (GraphPad).
An attitude for quality, an eye for detail, the ability to follow written instructions and work with a minimum of supervision.

The Role
BGC is seeking a Junior Instrumentation Engineer with a passion for applied earth sciences and a dedication to lifelong learning in a technically challenging and inspiring team environment. The Junior Instrumentation Engineer will work under the supervision of senior engineers on BGC's Instrumentation Team, which supports BGC projects with design, installation, and maintenance of geotechnical and environmental instrumentation systems, along with data processing, visualization, interpretation, and reporting. The ideal candidate will eagerly apply technical knowledge in the field and office environments in support of the Instrumentation Team's projects.
Responsibilities
Design, install, and troubleshoot geotechnical instruments and data collection and transmission systems with support and guidance from team members.
Travel to work sites, frequently outdoors in remote or challenging environments which require hiking with heavy equipment and off-road UTV/ATV skills. Up to 30% travel time, typically no longer than 2 weeks at once.
Program data loggers using various software, sometimes requiring basic coding skills.
Prepare documentation including field reports, quality control records, and system drawings.
Manage real-time instrument data flow and visualization
Maintain safe work practices and comply with health and safety policies.
Required Education, Experience & Competencies
Bachelor's or Associate degree in relevant academic program, such as Engineering (General Engineering, or specialties such as Geotechnical, Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical), Computer Science, Automation, or Electronics.
0-3 years of relevant experience in instrumentation, monitoring, or data systems.

Compensation
The estimated base salary range for this position is $70,000-$85,000 USD per annum, however base pay will be commensurate with job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. BGC's compensation package also includes a discretionary bonus plan, training allowance, and comprehensive medical and dental plan.
