1956

In 1956, IBM introduced hard disc drivers for the first time to the markets, and these hard discs were only used in protected confines of data centers.

1958

In 1958, Hans Peter Luhn, an IBM researcher, published an article entitled A Business Intelligence System in an IBM journal.

1967

The University of Georgia’s, Hugh Watson asserts that it was the work of Michael Scott Morton in 1967 that led to the development of management decision systems to assist managers in making fact based decisions.

1985

And, of course, there was Microsoft Excel (released in 1985). Business intelligence was now an integral part of the tools available for the decision-making process.

1988

The modern phase of business intelligence began immediately after the 1988 conference.

1995

In 1995, Microsoft released Windows 95, the first “user-friendly” operational system—and computers became common household items.

2000

By the year 2000, business intelligence solutions were already established as a “must have” for all medium to large businesses.

2003

The Human Genome Project was completed in 2003 but left many questions unanswered.

2008

In 2008, business intelligence, analytics and performance management revenue reached $8.8 Billion.

2017
