A bid is a detailed, costed, persuasive proposal, and bid managers are responsible for creating and overseeing bids on behalf of one organization to gain a business contract or offer of work from another. They ensure that these bids are successful at a price at which their organization can make a profit. They also oversee a bid management team in which specialists undertake separate parts of the bidding process.

Bid managers earn a median sum of $109,000 annually or $52 per hour. They are professionals who are highly creative and are responsible for managing customer proposal requests and coordinating company bids. They create solutions and develop strategies while complying with customer requirements to achieve their ultimate goal of securing winning bids. They also organize and track all requests and responses using company databases.

In terms of academic qualifications, bid managers typically hold a bachelor's degree in business, quantity surveyor, site manager, or other related fields. They are expected to gain professional qualifications with the association of proposal management professionals (APMP). Some employers prefer candidates with excellent analytical and communication skills.

A bachelor's in communication sciences and disorders can prepare you for three different tracks. First, it can prepare you to become a licensed Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA). If graduate school is on your horizon, a bachelor's degree in communication sciences and disorders will prepare you for acceptance into a Speech-Language Pathology program, or an Audiology program.
