In collaboration with paramedics or other EMT's, the EMT plays a vital role in stabilizing and managing patient care during emergencies, mainly when staffed for basic life support (BLS). EMT's interact with a wide range of individuals, including medical staff at base and outlying hospitals, physicians, emergency service agencies (fire, police, highway patrol), and ground ambulance personnel. Additionally, they engage with patients, their families, and public service groups for educational purposes and to maintain public relations.
