Big Ass Fans company history timeline
Its effects cripple workers’ morale and productivity and act as kryptonite for customers, so in 1999, a fledgling fan company set out to do something about it.
In 1999, Smith signed an exclusive distribution agreement with the a California manufacturer of "high-volume, low-speed" (HVLS) ceiling fans, which were sold to farmers for cooling cattle.
In 2000, the company initiated a marketing campaign with mailers depicting their fans with a picture of the rear of a donkey and the caption "Big Ass Fan". The campaign was successful enough that the company started doing business under the name Big Ass Fans.
The Boyd’s realized the HVLS fan could be used around the world so they came up with the name MacroAir Technologies, Inc. in 2003 and began selling the new invention around the globe under this new brand.
In 2006, innovation and functionality were more important than ever so the Boyd’s went to work to improve the HVLS fan with the more efficient 6-blade Technology.
By 2010, the company was re-occupied its Winchester Road location, in addition to the Merchant Street location and its research and development facility on Lexington's Jaggie Fox Way,in order to accommodate its continued growth.
Congratulating his excellence, Eddie Boyd accepted the 2011 Spirit of the Entrepreneur Award which recognized the leadership, innovation and business acumen of entrepreneurs.
In 2014, MacroAir introduced the first direct-drive HVLS fan capable of moving 24-foot blades, AirVolution-D. The AirVolution-D fan line set a new standard for efficiency and design for the industry.
In 2014, the company opened a new division called Big Ass Light to sell LED fixtures, and started doing business under the name Big Ass Solutions.
Prior to joining Big Ass Fans in 2018, he’s held various finance and treasury leadership roles in both private and public mid-sized companies.
Her global experience as both a private attorney & general counsel for businesses such as Planar Systems & JELD-WEN made her an excellent addition to the Big Ass Fans team in 2018.
With more than 25 years of senior HR executive experience, Dave was an ideal fit to begin serving as Big Ass Fans’ CHRO in 2019.
Prior to, he held various leadership roles with Zelios, The Outdoor Group, Schneider Electric, & Bullard, making him an excellent addition to Big Ass Fans in 2022.
