Pros of working at Big Rock Sports

At the time of this writing, Corporate office jobs can be remote, thou they were trying for hybrid.

Cons of working at Big Rock Sports

Immediately on hire, my subordinates explained that the raises in pay do not even keep pace with inflation, yet more and more work is asked as more people quit or are let go and are not replaced. Merritt-based pay increases were announced not to happen; no raises despite CEO and managers promising raises after our significant increase in work with incredibly limited over-sight. The work of departed co-workers was passed on to myself on my team. They said spring would bring performance review, but requests for meeting w manager were ignored. Unclear how performance was tracked, so I maintained an accomplishment and obstacles document, which never was given an opportunity to share. Communication was only possible when it directly pertained to a project, and even then was like pulling teeth often. Things like, executive insisting they have sent critical info that they have not sent, then not apologizing for chewing you out when it's discovered they never sent the info... asking you not to make doctor's appointments during the week... it became fairly demanding.

Big Rock Sports benefits

What do you like best about Big Rock Sports's CEO and the leadership team?

They have a new CEO, Ed Small seemed like a nice guy, new guy had no contact with the team. Either way, clearly their decisions did not benefit employees if they are asked to do more with no pay.

How would you improve Big Rock Sports's culture?

Better communication within corporate office, especially given how many new people will be hired. It's not possible to say "oh they'll learn on the job" when everyone who knows how things work have left the company.

How did you prepare for the Big Rock Sports interview?

Standard preparation; research the company, prepare to ask what tools they use and priorities they have. Know enough about fishing, shooting and outdoor sports to have context over products and vendors discussed.

What's the diversity at Big Rock Sports like?

Predominantly white, older men.

What brings you the most joy at Big Rock Sports?

Solving problems for vendors and providing the information stake-holders need in order to do business.

How does your compensation at Big Rock Sports compare to the industry average?

Compensation barely keeps up with inflation. My subordinate was highly technically gifted and was responsible for a tremendous amount of essential tasks, but was paid as much as a public school teacher. They left the company in my first year, as did the HR personnel and many others.
