EAST LANSING -- Friday is the last day to grab a coffee in the original Biggby’s, the first location of the wildly successful coffee chain. It opened in March 1995.
It was established in 1995 by Mary Roszel and Bob Fish as Beaner’s Coffee.
Due to the success of the initial location, Fish and Roszel opened a second location in downtown Lansing, Michigan in 1997.
In June 1998, they decided to franchise the company and established Global Orange Development.
A third location opened in August 1999, also located on Grand River Avenue in East Lansing about 2 miles (3.2 km) east of the first.
His father, Mohamed Shetiah, bought the property in 2000 from Bob Fish, the founder of Biggby Coffee.
The Beaner's franchise name was changed to Biggby Coffee in 2007 to avoid a connection to a derogatory term for Mexicans.
In August 2012, Roszel retired from the company after 17 years.
