BSA bike mechanic job description
This is a 2023 Summer position.
Repairs and maintains the Summit mountain bike and BMX inventory. Staff may be assigned to either one mountain bike or BMX area or move equally between all of them.
Responsibilities:
· Maintain a friendly and helpful attitude to insure that participants have a safe and enjoyable experience. Where possible solve their needs and concerns, where not possible, steer them to someone who can.
· Repair bikes so that they can be put back into use in the program
· Present a program that imparts useful bike care and maintenance knowledge that is safe, fun, interesting and challenging.
· Maintain a clean and efficient repair area
· Monitor inventory of spare parts and repair equipment and work with Lead Bike Mechanic to order materials needed to keep program running safely.
· Use any and all safety equipment mandated in your work area.
· Insure proper use, security and care of repair parts and repair equipment.
· Assist in the set up and takedown of the Summit Bechtel Reserve mountain bike shop and other facilities
· Turn accurate paperwork in to supervisor in a timely manner
· Adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the Summit Bechtel Reserve Staff Handbook
· Participate in all camp-wide activities
· Any other duties as assigned by full-time staff and/or direct supervisor
Qualifications & Training:
· Be or become a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America
· 18 Years old or older
· Have experience maintaining mountain bikes and/or BMX bikes
· Have experience maintaining an organized shop
· Good organizational skills
Physical Requirements:
· Must meet the Summit Bechtel Reserve's high adventure height/weight requirements as laid out in the Summit BSA Health & Medical Record
· Must be able to lift and handle materials weighing up to 70lbs
· Must be able to demonstrate proficiency riding a mountain bike

Position Purpose: Assemble and prepare bikes for sale. Mount and wax skis. Perform a variety of service functions on new and used bikes and skis. Through direct contact with customers provide exceptional service and share product and technical expertise to enhance the customer experience.
Responsibilities:
+ Apply shop standards in the assembly and repair of bikes and skis across the full product line.
+ Evaluate mechanical condition of product and estimate cost of repairs.
+ Meet or exceed shop production standards.
+ Complete paperwork accurately and fully (record parts used, work performed, detail of torque, tolerance and standard procedures; complete pricing of job ticket) and process to next status or location.
+ Record and report any deficiencies not addressed by the repair work being done to the customer and or the appropriate leader.
+ Assist customer in the sale or repair process by sharing product and technical knowledge as appropriate.
+ Seek assistance from the Lead Service Writer bike/ski shop mechanic when problems outside the scope of your expertise arise.
+ Relay obstacles to timely and satisfactory completion of repair or service to the Lead Service Writer bike/ski shop.
+ Operate cash register as necessary.
+ Report or record replacement parts inventory and supply shortages to the Service Writer bike/ski shop. Maintain shop cleanliness including bench and common workspace.
+ Know and follow all safety rules and procedures. Report any unsafe act or workplace condition to leadership or security as appropriate.
