Responsibilities
  • Ensure daily accomplishments work towards the company’s goal for cash collections and A/R over 90 days
  • Research outstanding balances and takes necessary collection actions to resolve them promptly.

UCSF Health bill collector job description

The OMFS billing unit deals regularly with complex policy and procedural issues that involve contract compliance with regard to commercial package payers. It is also responsible for gathering and securing all information needed for resubmission of denied claims and collections. The unit is also responsible for posting and allocating payments. It is unit's responsibility to communicate and coordinate throughout various UCSF departments', including the UCSF billing agents to resolve issues involving documentation and missing payments.

The Sr. Biller/Collector in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) is responsible for the Insurance payments where the contract dictates a case rate payment and is responsible for proactive follow up with insurance companies and other UCSF billing agents. The incumbent demonstrates the ability to perform all aspect of billing and follow-up with quality. The incumbent's main task is to resolve all outstanding insurance accounts through constant communication with the payers (by phone or via web access), UCSF clinical departments and billing agents.

When resolving the accounts receivables; the Biller/Collector must adhere to the OMFS guidelines to ensure consistency with the follow up and documentation processes and to maintain good quality work. The Sr. Biller/Collector must meet minimum productivity standards and quality expectations of their units and must attend and be engaged in unit and team meetings aimed at increasing knowledge. The incumbent will utilize web-based tools, including payor websites and Health Logic prior to calling payors and will conform to all UCSF, government and HIPAA policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications



Graduation from high school or a GED and five years of experience, including two years of experience in collections investigation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; At least 1 year of previous Insurance Follow up experience. Knowledge of CPT / ICD-9 or ICD-10 Experience With Denials Management Effective Time Management and Ability to Meet Deadlines; ability to set priorities, goals and objectives. Demonstrate the Ability to communicate effectively (orally and written). Experience with MS EXCEL and OUTLOOK. Demonstrates positive attitude and excellent customer service skills. Under the direction of the Branch Manager or Field Leader, the Collector's primary responsibility is to provide coverage in the field ensuring that collections are completed accurately and on time. Maintain a safe and professional environment for clients, and employees, perform with confidence all aspects of the testing, including specimen collection and processing duties following established practices and procedures.
* Ensures all specimens are collected accurately and on time.
* Collects specimens according to established procedures using DOT guideline 49 CFR-Part 40.
