Job Description
Experienced Bindery Operator (eligible for a $2,000 Sign On Bonus!). Opening is for 3rd (shift differential provided)
* Set up, adjust and operate assigned binding equipment (i.e. inkjet and mailing devices, case making & decorating equipment, folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, binding/gluing machines
* May set up automatic bindery machines containing multiple functions and station capabilities (power paper cutters, power collators and gatherers, power folders, power speed binder).
* Inspect equipment for safety issues
* May operate automatic adhesive binding machines (perfect binders) that contain numerous interrelated process stations that are fed collated sheets or signatures and perform such functions as vibrating, milling, roughening, gluing, covering and delivering or stacking completed books, magazines or catalogs
* Make needed adjustments to coordinate the multiple work stations on a single machine
* Monitor quality, output and productivity
Qualifications
* Familiarity with different paper weights, sizes, kinds and colors so as to be able to identify paper conditions (i.e. excessive moisture or curling that frequently requires additional machine adjustment)
* Familiarity with basic mathematics (i.e. decimals, metric units) to understand dimensional requirements contained in job orders and to make more complicated adjustments
* Ability to use the full range of standard and specialized tools and devices to adjust and maintain the functional accuracy and operating conditions of the bindery machines
* Skill in making adjustments to powered machines using handtools (i.e. wrenches, screwdrivers, punches, knives) as well as more specialized hand tools, usually furnished by the machine manufacturer
* Ability to read and interpret written work which indicates the number and sequence of machine operations required to complete the work and maintain dimensional accuracy in accordance with instructions provided
* Knowledge of operating procedures for bindery equipment such as folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, binding/gluing machines
* Working knowledge of the set up, adjustment, procedures, capabilities and limitations of equipment to perform the full range of standard and specialized folding, collating, and cutting of printed materials to complete a finished product
Additional Information
The rate of pay for this role at the noted RRD location is $19.50 to 20.00/ hour. Typically, roles follow step progressions to a target rate or set increments over time. Depending on the role, in addition to the hourly rate of pay, the total compensation package may also include a sign-on bonus of $2,000, overtime, shift differential, call-in, and/or stand-by pay. Position: Bindery Operator
Reports to: Bindery Foreman
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Location/Shift: Monroe/Blue Ash, Ohio / 2nd Shift
Essential Function: The Bindery Operator Position must be an expert operating at least 3 core bindery machines.
The 6 core machines- Stitcher, Cutter, Folder, Folder/Gluer, Die Cutter or Collator. Must produce high quality printing jobs, to meet customer and company expectations, in a cost-effective manner while meeting strict deadlines.
Experience:
Minimum 3 to 5 years experience operating 3 core machines in a print environment.
Job Duties and General Expectations:

Follow Lahlouh ISO Quality Procedures and Work Instructions, and complete forms and checklists as necessary

Work overtime and weekends, and in other departments as business needs dictate
Perform other duties as required
Attend department and company meetings
Assist in training new and temporary employees
Keep jobs and production floor clean and organized
Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for prolonged periods of time
Ability to push/pull loaded pallet jacks and/or rolling carts
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and 75 pounds on occasio
Communicate any job specifics issues or other pertinent information regarding jobs to the next shift, if necessary

Operating knowledge of stitching machines, including troubleshooting
Ability to set up various book sizes, including 3, 5 and 6 pockets plus cover feeder and 4th and 5th knives.
Perform daily, monthly, and quarterly maintenance on stitching equipment
Position Specific Skills & Competencies - Cutter:
Operating knowledge of cutting machines, including troubleshooting
Ability to cut a variety of jobs, including business cards
Ability to assist with special projects, including step books and crossovers
Perform daily, monthly, and quarterly maintenance on cutting machines
Position Specific Skills & Competencies - Folder:
Operating knowledge of folder machines, including troubleshooting
Ability to fold in many different configurations
Ability to fold paper from 27# text to 120# cover
Perform daily, monthly, and quarterly maintenance on folding machines
Position Specific Skills & Competencies - Folder/Gluer:
Operating knowledge of fold/glue machines, including troubleshooting
Ability to fold in many different configurations using a hot melt glue unit
Ability to fold paper from 65# cover to 120# cover
Perform daily, monthly, and quarterly maintenance on fold/glue machines
